Resolve 12 tracking crashes every time

Crashes every time when tracking, after more or less time.

Resolve 12.0 running Win 10 Pro on late model Asus with 32GB DDR4, SSD, AMD R9-280, Red Pro 4TB drives: oughta work, I believe.

But Resolve crashes every time while tracking (15 minute UHD source with project properties set to 1080 as a proxy for easier tracking. But the same crash problem happens with settings in native 4K, not 1080 proxy.)

Simple head and shoulders shot; adding a tracking mask to lighten face.

Tracking set to basic Pan & Tilt, disabled Zoom, 3D for simplicity.

Tracking seems to work well until it crashes.

Memory and cpu utilization seem reasonable, viewed using Microsoft Process Explorer.

Any suggestions? A known problem?

I try to pause it and make slight adjustments, in Interactive mode or not, may be related to crashes??
Are we supposed to let it fun to the end and then make adjustments???

Try Resolve 12.01 and if it still crashes, link to a CaptureLogs zip file.

Run: C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\CaptureLogs.bat

after the crash and before restarting Resolve. This will place a .zip log file on your desktop.

I've noticed this too. When tracking for a window or stabilization I get crashes. But on app relaunch it seems fine. After awhile though it will crash again.

I have the same problem. Had it with Resolve 11 and my old system with Windows 7 to the extent that I could not use tracking anymore. Built a new system recently, updated to Win 10 and Resolve 12, and had about 3 weeks of trouble-free grading. Now it's starting again, crashes when starting tracking. Not every time, but maybe every 4th or 5th time when tracking.

System: Core i7 6700K, Asus Z170 Deluxe, 32 GB RAM, GTX 750 (GUI) + GTX 970 4GB, Win 10 Pro, Deckling Mini Monitor, latest Deckling & GPU Drivers. HD projects with Prores media, 25 fps.

Same problem here, davinci keep crashing after 1 attempt to stabilize. Never had this problem before, the software isn't usable for me now.

HI Guys, for the crashing bugs, please post links to CaptureLogs. Details at the top of the forum. If we can't see the crash, which we dont here, then the logs might give us a hint where to look.

@Wander: It doesn't appear that Resolve had crashed when you captured this log. I do see indications of tracking being done. It looks like Resolve went to sleep at 23:36:05 and then woke back up at 00:02:02, when CaptureLogs was run.

When you say Resolve is crashing, is it crashing to the desktop, or is it hanging and unresponsive?

If its crashing to the desktop, please run CaptureLogs after that happens.

Can you do a Project Export for the Marcellus Johnson Live Session, and link to the .drp?

Thanks for looking at this problem. I'm recreating the crash another time, this time while capturing it with my phone. And also running another log afterwards.

It seems that Davinci won't crash all the time, the stabilizer will just go super slow and stresses the software up to the point it won't respond. Windows 10 will then ask if I want to wait for the program to respond or shut it down, but then I get pulled back to davinci when it continues to be slow again.

Note that the first stabilizing attempt in a fresh project runs smooth and fast, but after the first tracking data has been recorded the stabilizer just jams.

I'm not quite sure as to where I can find the .drp you're speaking of. But atleast you have some more information with this, I'm willing to provide the .drp aswell.

At the top of the Resolve forum is a post called Instructions for CaptureLogs. In that post are details for generating log, system info, and project export files.

Export the Marcellus Johnson Live Session project drp.

Link to that, along with a Windows System Information .NFO file.

The video was helpful. The additional info will hopefully help even more.

My 12.5 keeps crashing on certain tracking. I was working fine on some scene, the tracking was working ok, then bam, it crashed... relaunched the app and it keeps crashing everytime I attempted to track again...

Try with the release 12.5 version.

If still issues, link to another log, and the project export .drp file of the project you are using.

I see that this thread has gone quiet. Has there been any progress on this issue. I have been in communication with Alistair on your tech team since March this year, relating to the same issue. I have uploaded many logs, Project folders clips etc and am now being told to try Win 7 Pro, rather Win 10 Pro that I am on.

When reading this thread however, I saw that other users had the same problem on Win 7, so am now questioning the move. PLEASE tell me that there is some solution in site, I love this software, but it is becoming unusable, purely because of this tracking issue.

Yes, especially with so many replies to problem on this forum suggesting almost immediately that Windows 7 could be the problem when users report that is the OS being used. I personally would love to know more about the real differences of running under Win10 vs Win7 other than the lack of official support.
