Upgrading from 11 to 12 mid project...

PostMon Sep 28, 2015 5:47 pm

I would really like to upgrade from 11 to 12 to start my next project, but I have one remaining project that I started in 11 and it doesn't look like will be finished any time soon.

I'm wondering how safe it might be to upgrade while I'm still working on that one project.

I know, the standard reply would be that it's safer to wait, but I'm wondering if anyone has already done this and what their experience was. Anything look different? Complications? Suggestions?

Thanks.

I think the standard reply is always a good one to follow in post production. If you are mid-project, and the project is of any importance, don't upgrade your software or your OS unless you have a real compelling reason to do so.

I have generally avoided upgrading anything mid-project, but I have successfully recalled v11 projects in Resolve 12, and (so far) they appear to be OK.

If you choose to do this, backup your project database just in case you have to toss 12 and go back to 11. v12 will permanently change your database to their new format, so once you upgrade, you can't go back with that database. The old database will still work in 11.
