12 showing white screen?

PostWed Oct 21, 2015 10:40 am

Hi guys, recently got the free version of 12 and mucked around with it. I'm not sure what I've done but now there's this plain white overlay on the preview/playback part. There's still sound when I play clips but it doesn't show anything. Including this, the program used to run semi-well (lagged when playing clips) but now crashes every time I go to another window (edit, colour, deliver).

I've reinstalled the program twice and updated all my drivers, yet I still comes across the same problem.
Has any one else experienced this?

I'm currently using an Acer laptop with:
AMD FX-7500 Quad Core Processor (2.10ghz with max speed of 3.3)
16GB DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon R7 M265 (2GB RAM) Graphics Card
Windows 10

Thanks in advance!

What format are the problematic clips?

If Resolve is crashing, post your crash log here and the BM guys sometimes can take a look.

I have noticed that the white screen is still there even when I do not load any clips. It is there as soon as I open a new project.

It seems to just be not responding, resulting in me having to end the process.

As JP mentioned, posting a link to your Resolve log file would be helpful.

For an AMD GPU, it is necessary to have the proper AMD Catalyst driver package installed. You can get that by going to the AMD site, and look for the Catalyst package for your specific graphics chipset. If you don't have that installed, Resolve will not process video. But in that situation, you should be getting error messages when you launch Resolve and/or log in as a user.

To generate a log file, open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to this location:
C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve and run CaptureLogs.

That will put a .zip file on your desktop. Post a link to that file here.

Hi Dwaine,

I've made sure I have the most recent Catalyst driver package installed, and have attached the log file here.

I have come across an interesting solution that has now worked three times. When I start the program while the laptop is NOT plugged in and running on battery, there are no white screens, and the program seems to work fine (no freezing or anything).

Would there be any reason for this?

Does your operating system have any different protocols set for energy-saving?

I have checked the power options; it looks like all power options for "battery" operated aim to be less performance orientated. I'm going to attempt to change each power option to see what one is triggering the white screen.
