I've been rendering 1080 and 4k from Resolve with the Blackmagic thunderbolt interface disconnected, and it's been working so far for me. Using my original 2013 nMP 8 core D700 with Yosemite and Resolve 11, no 4k GUI displays just 1080.

I don't think connecting or disconnecting a monitor makes a difference. I think it's all due to the flakiness of the AMD GPU chip.

I have had the D700 GPUs replaced once and the new one is considerably better than the old one. I am still getting glitches, but only 20% as often as I was before. I'm gonna try for one more replacement in about a week and see if it gets rid of 100% of the glitches.

I don't know what causes the render glitches with certainty, but I know how I get through my renders. I used to disconnect the BMD video box and plug it back in and most times it would render without the glitch, except once in a while I'd get a stubborn timeline that won't cooperate. Now I leave the BMD interface unhooked the entire time it's rendering. If the AMD cards have one less thing to do, I figure it's got to be making it easier on the cards while rendering.

Just to be clear the render artifacts I'm dealing with are the horizontal lines of bad pixels.

I updated to the latest CUDA driver and I thought it fixed things. WRONG! Renders work a bit better with a little less horizontal line artifacts but still not the fix. Took my Mac Pro into Apple Genius bar for hardware test and of course they say it is working just fine and it is most likely a software issue. They recommended I just reinstall the OS. Its a shame for a $6k machine to have these issues and my old iMac does not. With all the evidence of failures you would think Apple and BMD could work this out. Its frustrating to say the least.

Did you take your mac pro in for the apple recall on your graphics card?

I don't think the CUDA driver makes any difference on a nMP, at least it shouldn't. No CUDA cards inside.

I'm going to genuflect and say a prayer in the direction of St. Telecinius, the patron saint of all colorists. ;)

Any updates on this issue? Any lock Marc?
Why is Blackmagic so quiet about this? Where is Peter Chamberlain?
Do we have to get rid of all dual D700 MPs? No wonder many call them "trashcans" !!

I think Blackmagic's official position is that this is a hardware problem, not a Resolve problem. There are enough users encountering glitches with Premiere and other software to tell me that most likely this is just a batch of defective AMD GPUs. I personally am very disappointed in Apple's attitude, and at this point I'd say Steve Jobs' body is spinning in its grave.

My advice: I'm planning to change to a big Windows box and big NVidia GPUs in the spring if the scheduling and budget allows for it. I dislike Windows, but I hate render glitches even more.
