Color Boost vs. Saturation? Which do you prefer?

PostThu Dec 10, 2015 3:27 pm

Is there ever a time when the Saturation control works better than Color Boost?

I ask because coming from Photoshop, I've always avoided Saturation in favor of what Adobe calls Vibrance because Saturation is too global and always looks fake to my eye while Vibrance just gives images more zing while keeping them believable.

In Resolve my understanding is that the controls work the same way. Saturation is everything, Color Boost just boost the under-saturated colors and leaves the others alone.

So, when in your opinion is Saturation a better choice?

they both affect the whole range of the image. Color Boost just affects the less saturated parts more than the more saturated parts. In effect it compresses the range of saturation when increasing its value, and expands it when decreasing the value. The Saturation control does the opposite, which imo is the more natural way. I'd only use Color Boost if it made it easier to achieve a given look.

it depend what i want to achieve and if I'm coloring under a lut.

color space fitting will be saturation
just a bit dull will be probably color boost

but i generically like saturation better
