Resolve 12.2 working on 10.9.5

PostTue Feb 09, 2016 10:18 pm

I am currently on a Mavericks system on an older MacPro tower. Apple store describes OSX 10.9.5 as minimum system requirements for Resolve. However Blackmagic writes Yosemite. I tried installing at it seems to run on 10.9.5. Being a little scared of updating this older system to El Capitan I was wondering if there would be any issues continuing with Resolve on 10.9.5 even though it seems it is not "officially" supported.

Why not use Yosemite? It's stable and proven.

Even MacPros before official 64 bit support can be opened up to newer systems with a boatload hack, since their processors are 64 bit capable.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Yes but is that possible? To download Yosemite? I only see El Capitan as an option in the App Store

The "safe" thing to do is stay on Mavericks while you can and hope El Capitan has stabilized by the time you need to move (which may not be until the next iteration of the OS anyway).

In which case, upgrade to El Capitan right before it gets taken off the Apple site, too. ;)

I am running resolve 12.2 (and now 12.3) on osx 10.9.5 without major issues. As far as I know, color management is not fully supported on mavericks but since I use this machine for broadcast standard workflows I don't need to use it right now. I am also running resolve on an hackintosh Yosemite system for cinema workflow and I haven't seen any big difference in stability between the two.

Thanks, I am going to buy a new iMac born with El Capitan soon - just want to wait until Avid and Resolve gets a few more patches so hoping to get by with the old tower just for a few more months :-)

Anyone had success running 12.5 on 10.9.5? I don't want to update to 10.10 if I can help it, as it may upset my Creative Suite 6 suite of applications, including Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Thanks,

Stuart
