Sony A7sii Playback Crash Immediately

PostMon Feb 15, 2016 6:50 pm

No matter what I do, Sony 4k xavcs footage crashes resolve immediately. Even trying to scrub in media pool makes it crashes.

I've tried new project. I"m tried clearing cache. I've tried everything. Crashes instantly no matter what.

Resolve 12. 3.1. Same things happens in Resolve 12.3.

Sorry to bring bad news, but I'd call that expected behavior. Your MBP is massively underpowered for 4K, in H.264 it's even worse. Please check the needed system specs at BM's website.

Try HD from that camera and see if it works.

This same footage worked perfectly fine in 12.2. I'm not expecting perfect playback but it shouldn't cause it to crash immediately

one of the release notes for this version of sw, is improvement in the h264 performance. if they pass some of the math to the gpu, you're system became a brick.

always read the release notes before upgrade

As I suggested, try HD from the same camera and see if that works.
If so, I'd expect the machine to be underpowered for 4K and you may need to go back to 12.2.

I consider this a valid measure, since I've seen re-wrapped AVCHD footage (not transcoded) from some cameras crashing DR.

I did read the release notes before upgrading. I would think improvement in h.264 performance to be a good thing. I didn't see anywhere in the release notes that shows specifics of what the improvements are.

I'm having the same issues that the OP had. GTX 980TI, Resolve 12.3.1, 12-core mac pro.

The same footage played fine before upgrading to the newest 12.3.1. I have both UHD and HD footage off the A7sII. Keeps crashing when I play that footage but it doesn't crash when I'm playing the BMCC footage that's in the media pool.

I had exactly the same issue with A7ii 4k footage and the same spec MBP running DaVinci 12.3

I've switched back to 12.2 and all works fine.

I am having the same problem with 4K XAVC video from the same Sony camera. It's not that my machine is underpowered for 4K video (nor is the OP's machine) since this exact same footage worked well in Resolve 11.

Working in HD instead of 4K is not a reasonable alternative.

I am having the same issue. Late 2013 Mac pro 8 core cpu, 64GB ram, D700 GPU's and a fast TB raid. At 12.2 i was running the Sony A7s II 4k XAVC-S realtime just fine, with several nodes. With 12.3.1 it stutters and never exceeds 8-12 frames per second on the color page.

Obviously this is not a issue with mine or the other machines in this thread being underpowered, since they where fine before updating. And working in HD or even transcoding everything to prores is not the solution.

I hope Black Magic comes up with a fix soon.

Same issue here. Downgrading back to 12.2 to see if it works.

12.3.2 seems to have fixed it. Working in here!

Crash on underpowered system is a bad thing. It shouldn't crash as it was mentioned.
Crash=bug or bad programming.
