resolve overwrites stills on export

PostSat Feb 20, 2016 8:29 pm

I want to move a large still gallery to another system, but because some of the stills have the same name resolve keeps overwriting them.. How do I solve that? I loose half of them on export! They are to many to be exported sepretly with a unique name. Bug?

If the stills are confined to one project, then a better course might be to export the timeline(s) as a DRP, then bring that in to the other system with a new project name, then move the stills over in the Gallery database.

make a power folder, start to assemble project one there
go in project 2 and import all the ones from project one and add project two

keep going. ..

the stills are already in a power folder, hundreds of reference images from multiple projects (projects I don't have available anymore). So unfortunately that won't do it.

export project 1 still/drp, with a rename tool add the word project_1 to all, import back, do the sane for project 2 and so on

how do you "export" them at the moment?

This really is a problem with file management within Resolve. I wish if the program ever encountered a file-naming conflict, they'd just call the second one "filename_1," then "filename_2" and so on and never overwrite anything. This is a fixable problem.

Yes, if you have duplicate timecodes in timelines, sometimes you wind up with Gallery stills that have identical names in a big session (particularly in different sessions). I have encountered cases where I had to export, say, 40 stills for a DP, but when I checked the export folder, it turned out only 30 of the stills made it. The 10 that didn't were overwritten by identically-named stills.

Not only do I wish Resolve could just append a _1, _2, and so on suffix to the file names to avoid overwriting (as it does with renders in the Deliver page), I'd like to see a mechanism so that if you give the still a name, it uses that name as the exported file. So, for example, if I call a scene "Beach CU" and another shot "Beach Wide," the exported still gets those name only.

Note that this is more of a dailies problem than anything else. As long as there are no timecode conflicts (as with simultaneous A&B cameras), the still should not overwrite. There's no problem with a continuous feature, for example.

Yes, but for dailies and big projects with a lot of timelines, it is very difficult to sort out this...
