How to crash (hang) v12.3.1

PostFri Mar 04, 2016 9:08 pm

I've just had this about five times in a row - park on the end frame of an edit then in Color hit play. It just hangs. Any one else have this problem?

Mine freezes playback. The ui is still not frozen, i can go and change stuff in the color wheels, but it just doesn't update in the viewer and i have to force quit and restart.

I'm on v12.5 of Resolve Studio, and it simply hangs every time I hit play on a DPX sequence in a timeline in the Color tab, or when I start a render in the delivery tab. Renders do finish in the background, but the Resolve UI plays a couple of frames and then just sits there with a hang, and when Resolve is force-quit and restarted it lists the render in the queue at 0%.

Because renders do display a couple of frames before stopping, and the DPX sequences are stored on the client's slow external drive, I do wonder if some sort of race condition is happening. But I'd expect skipped frames or an error message, not an unrecoverable application hang.

It's going to be a little embarrassing explaining to a client this afternoon that we can only grade on stills and can't hit play, but at least we will be able to finish the grade and do an export, even if the UI is not cooperating.

(Resolve Studio v12.5.0.052 on OS X 10.11.5, Blackmagic Decklink Extreme 4k with BlackMagic Desktop v10.5.1, MacPro 8-core 3GHz 128Gb RAM, D700)

I'm experiencing the same issue when apply TNR or Neat NR on 5k Red files.

Plays for a few seconds then video output hangs but UI still functions and I can save.

Converting the Red files to DPX frames and smaller frame sizes fixes the problem.

Maybe my Cpu's are getting to old for Red decode and TNR?

And the crashing problem went away completely when I disconnected the DeckLink 4K Extreme Capture & Playback Card (which lives in an external Akitio Thunderbolt2-PCI enclosure) and then ran DaVinci Resolve. The crash was 100% reproducible before -- all it took was hitting play in the timeline or starting an export.

I'll uninstall BlackMagic Desktop Video Utility 10.5.1 and install the latest version and see if that fixes anything. I tend not to update that driver until absolutely necessary when in the middle of a project, but if this export finishes without issue then so does this project. So it's about time.

I have to say, R12.5 is very stable for me and good on playback. I've learned to make sure I don't have Safari open in the background, that somehow seemed to cause problems in previous versions.
