premiere pro to resolve resize softness?

PostTue Mar 22, 2016 1:58 am

Hi,

Working in premiere with 6k r3d's in an 1080P timeline.
So if I export an XML from Premiere that contains a bunch of repos, the only way for them to come through in resolve is to set Resolve's default scaling to crop.

Now all repos come through properly but.. I could swear that when I resize some of the red footage (that comes through from premiere with an initial size value of .345) to say .6 or .7 then the footage looks a little soft.

Is there any way that resolve is not concatenating the resize operations and instead of using available r3d resolution, it's blowing up pixels?

FYI I'm working in a 1080p timeline in resolve.

Would really appreciate any thoughts as my renders out of resolve look softer than they should given the source footage. Any gotchas in Resolve re resizing that I might be missing?

Thanks,

Dom

Check in project Settings > Image Scaling > Resize filter. Select which ever feels sharper to you. My individual taste would be selecting Smoother as downscaling from 6k to 1080 feels already crisp sharper to my eyes.

And also select Debayer quality to sharper filter - under Image scaling.

Yup, full premium.

I also already had the resize filter settings to 'Sharp' debayer.

Resolve shouldn't be simply scaling up pixels right? Hopefully the internal math is smart enough to only do that if going below 1:1 pixels when resizing...
