mal formed .MOV Prores files? BUG?

PostSat Mar 26, 2016 9:11 pm

Just did a large output (13 hours of timeline)
in ProRes 422

all new!
10.11.4 OSX
and Resolve 12.3.2
nvidia 7.5.26 drivers
on a recent macbook pro

and was surprised to see that the the final file will not open in Quicktime 7
gives the error that there is "an invalid public movie atom was found in the movie"

the file opens fine in Quicktime X and VLC
(although the QuicktimeX reports an incorrect (crazy) data rate)

trying to track down the error....
and find maybe a fix

thanks!

QT 7 is outdated. Apple doesn't support it any more.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I use QuickTime 7 all the time and it works fine. But I'm still on OSX 10.10.3.

Also on 10.10 and use QT 7 Pro all the time to check files, extract tracks, etc. Light-years more useful than QuickTime X.

I'm using it too, but nevertheless it could cause the problem.

How big is your file?
This is strange and suggest some Mov structure issue. Is it ProRes+PCM audio?

do you have a link ?
THANKS in advance...

as for many of the other comments...
quicktime 7 (THE APP) -- really CANT be Broken or obsolete

there is to my knowledge no other way to manipulate the internals of a quicktime files
-> adding and removing tracks
-> setting the playback setting for the container
-> adding or modifying annotations

If Quicktime Player 7.6 says there is an error in the file structure then I believe it...

As much as I like that program for a Swiss knife, Apple was working on their codecs after that program was declared EOL. So you may be running into a rare bug, after all not so many programs have 13 hours in one file. What happens if you render two halves and string them together?

Uli took the words out of my mouth. 13 hours for a single file is massive and crazy to me. Break it up into 2 or 3 files, and I bet it will work. I've routinely dealt with 3-4 hour QT files without any issue (save file space).

Hey,

If not fixed yet, also try to use Mpeg Streamclip, which opens what QT opens, but is widely more stuffed with tools...
*MacMini M1 16 Go - Ext nvme SSDs on TB3 - 14 To HD in 2 x 4 disks USB3 towers
*Legacy MacPro 8core Xeons, 32 Go ram, 2 x gtx 980 ti, 3SSDs including RAID

750GB is not that big. If it would be above 2TB than this could be a problem.
