Confused about the future of Windows and ProRez

I know this may not be the forum for this question, but I've seen a lot of people in here referencing the future lack of prorez support on Windows. I have to assume that this is referring to playback as rendering directly from Windows currently isn't an option anyway. So where does this stand? Is it definitive that a Windows machine will not be able to play a prorez file in the near future? If this is true is this only referring to the actual OS, for example you'll still be able to playback an Alexa prorez source file within Resolve, just not in the QT player on the Windows OS?
