Apantac good option for 4K SDI-to-DisplayPort conversion?

PostFri Apr 29, 2016 7:56 pm

I have a late 2013 Mac Pro and will be using a DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G card in a PCIe expansion chassis to connect to an Eizo CG318-4K color grading monitor. I will be working with output from a RED Weapon 6K camera.

The CG318-4K requires DisplayPort input to get 4K at 60Hz, so I need to convert the SDI output from the card to DisplayPort. I have found this converter:
Apantac Micro-4K-DP UHD/4K to DisplayPort Converter
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1 ... splay.html

It seems to do the job, but the meager spec sheet and website don't inspire confidence. I'm not sure if the statement "4096/3840 x 2160 resolution at 50/59.94/60 Hz frame rates and 4:4:4/4:2:2, in 8 and 10 bits sampling" means you will get 4096 out if you put 4096 in. Definitely will not scale down to 3840? And what happens at other frame rates?

Is anyone using the converter? Does it work well?
Is this the only game in town at 4K?
Thanks.
