Progressive 25fps footage exporting as interlaced

PostMon Jun 06, 2016 8:00 am

Hi,

I'm relatively new to Resolve, so apologies if this is something really stupid...

I'm importing DSLR footage into Resolve. It's MOV, H.264, 1080p 25fps, shot on Canon DSLR.

If I just use the default project settings then I get a warning that the project and media don't match (as the project defaults to 24fps). So let's say I click don't change. I get to deliver, choose MOV H.264 - and it's at 24fps, as you'd expect. I render the footage, check it and it's fine (except it's 24fps).

Sooo... I start the whole process as above, but simply change the Project Settings to 25fps. Don't change any other settings. Import the footage and I don't get the project/media mismatch warning. Go to deliver, settings all look fine - MOV H.264 25fps. Great. So I render it.

Now when I check the rendered footage... it's saying it's 25fps interlaced. So somehow it's gone from progressive to interlaced. It's the same if I leave the project settings alone, get the warning and click Change (i.e. adjust the timeline to match the source media).

I've faffed about for ages and tried both Resolve 12 and 12.5, both seem to do this. I can shoot in 24fps if necessary, but up to now I've shot everything 25fps so if possible I'd like to use that footage.

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Hi Jonathan,

It sounds like you have the option 'Field rendering' checked on the Deliver page. By default Resolve will process and render as progressive video, whether your original footage was progressive or interlaced. I believe the only way to render interlaced is to check this option, so I expect this should be the root of the problem.

You would also want to make sure your Master project settings are set before you start importing media, particularly the frame rate. But this shouldn't be anything to do with the interlaced footage.

What are you importing it back into after rendering? It sounds like you're using resolve only but just checking it's not an issue with something else.
