TIP - Use displayport rather than HDMI with a 4K GUI

PostFri Jun 10, 2016 3:23 pm

Hummm
this might be obvious to many
but here's a tip that took me quite a while to figure out

When Using 4k GUI screens
If you have the option to use DisplayPort - do it.

HDMI is constrained on the Mac to 30Hz
But DisplayPort can do 60Hz

and while I know this is in the spec...
I didn't realize that the stutter that I saw on the GUI screen was because of this...

My machine was FPS locked and the external monitor was fine,
so I figured the fact the GUI was running at about 18FPS was just the way it is.

well swapping cable made a huge difference in the fluidity of the system!

Cheers!
Hope this helps somebody
