I've compiled a list of bugs I've found in Resolve, some minor, others not so much. The list began in V12 and will be updated periodically. It's rather long so I've broken it down into sections. System specs are as follows:
Mac Pro 2013, 2xD700, 64GB RAM, 3.5GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 2xEizo C230 display (1920x1080), OSX 10.10.5 Yosemite, Decklink 4K Extreme running Desktop video 10.5.4 (can't install 10.7 because apparently it breaks FCP7), Resolve Studio 12.5.5
MBP2016, OSX 10.12.4, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3, Radeon Pro 460 4096 MB, Resolve Lite 14b3
Edit Page
1. [UPDATE - fixed] If you try and add a transition using a keyboard shortcut, but your default transition duration is longer than the duration of the clip, then no transition will be added at all.
2. If you have a wipe transition and select a coloured border, then clicking the ‘feather’ checkbox will get rid of the colour.
3. Text generator. If you have text formatted as small caps, then if a given line of text does not contain either a space or letter entered as a capital, then the letters will be ridiculously tiny. If you then add a space, or capital letter (i.e. using shift or caps lock) the entire line of text will now be at the normal size.
4. [UPDATE - fine in 14b3 on MBP, probably a desktop video issue in 12.5 on MP2013] Slow motion playback with either jk or kl results in audio intermittently being played back and then silent. In Color page, there is no audio on slow motion playback. (dtv 10.5.4)
5. [UPDATE - fixed] Dynamic trimming with cmd-j/l will ignore ‘Bypass All Grades’ selection on Color page
6. When sliding a clip or group of clips, only one clip can be slid over, including gap clips. To slide of more you must re-select the clip(s) you want to slide.
7. Edit index – ‘show all’ doesn’t show markers
8. [UPDATE - fixed] Ganging the viewers disables transport controls in the source monitor
9. Safe Area markers do not output to an external monitor from the Edit page (but do from the Color page)
10. View menu – Show Gray Background In Viewers – toggle doesn’t update the background until the playhead is moved. It updates straight away if this option is selected via project settings (as in, as soon as you click on ‘save’). This bug also exists in the Color page.
11. The Source viewer will still show applied grades if a Timeline is loaded when Bypass All Grades is selected
12. If you try and add a transition between 2 clips using the keyboard shortcut but the handles are not enough to make the transition last as long as the ‘Standard transition duration’ listed in the Editing settings, then the ‘insufficient handles’ dialog will come up i.e. you won’t be able to add a transition using the keyboard shortcut unless the clip handles available allow it. Dragging the transition from the Effects Library bin needs no such minimum threshold.
13. If you load a media pool clip into the source viewer, then double click on a timeline clip to bring it into the source viewer, then hit the overwrite button, then the media pool clip will be edited into the timeline even though it is no longer selected
14. Clip markers don’t show if you have Timeline View set to ‘no thumbnail’ (i.e. reduced mode) and video track height is set too low. There should be a smaller marker display introduced for such views.
15. [UPDATE - fixed] Select Workspace - Audio mixer in edit page, then click on the icon to get rid of it. Audio Mixer is still ticked in the Workspace menu.
16. [UPDATE - intentional] Edit index – show through edits only – also shows the edit previous to the first through edit (intentional?)
17. [UPDATE - irrelevant now that Swap Edits no longer exist for some reason] Click a clip to select it in lieu of cmd-option dragging to swap insert with adjacent clips. Cmd-option clicking and dragging won’t do anything (previously it deselected the clip in v12). This doesn’t happen when cmd-shift clicking in order to do a normal swap edit. In other words, in order to do a swap insert, you must not have any clips selected first.
18. Multicam editing – default is blade tool when hovering over multicam angles in source window, option click for switching without a cut. But the icon doesn’t update until you move or click the mouse again after pressing/releasing option key.
19. [UPDATE - fixed] Offline clips in the timeline appear with their normal clip colour when zoomed out past a certain point – they must be sufficiently short relative to the overall duration of the timeline. But there’s no reason for them to be coloured still!
20. [UPDATE - fixed] If you have a sequence where clips are online but then subsequently go offline, the UI still shows the clips in blue. Thumbnails will have the media offline indicator, but this is no good if timeline view is set to reduced mode! (and it’s no good anyway). Timeline clips will only be in red if there is no corresponding clip in the Media Pool i.e. if they are ‘unlinked’. If this is the way it’s supposed to be then it’s REALLY unhelpful!
21. If you have a clip that is online, and then go into the finder to move it somewhere else such that it will become offline in Resolve, then Resolve will be confused as to whether or not it is online or offline. Somehow it will manage to play some picture and audio, intermittently flicking to the ‘media offline’ indicator, even though no caching is enabled. How is it doing this? Another time it played the clip back flawlessly. Trying to reveal the clip in the finder did nothing. Quitting and re-opening correctly shows the clip as being totally offline.
22. [UPDATE - probably fine] Take selector – ripple is off by default. If you add a take that’s longer, then select it and close without rippling, then the additional media is no longer available if you reopen the take selector and enable ripple. Can still be trimmed back in when out of the take selector though.
23. [UPDATE - fixed] Using keyboard shortcuts to edit multiple clips into the timeline only results in the first selected clip being edited.
24. When dragging edits points, the HUD never says where the 0 point is, it’s always at best + or – 1 frame, so you can’t tell where you were
25. Using ‘Select Clips Forward/Backward On This Track’ will select clips on the current video destination selection. Why?? Why is it not dependent on lowest track auto-select instead??
26. [UPDATE - probably fine] If you link multiple video and audio clips together, and then option-click on any one of them and move it out of sync, there’s something wrong in the way that ‘out of sync’ indicators appear. If you have clips stacked, then indicators only appear on all clips if you move the lower-left-most video clip. If they are on the same layer, then indicators only appear on all clips if you move the left-most clip. Otherwise the indicators will only appear on 2 video clips, and no audio clips.
27. [**UPDATE - fixed in 12.5.1**] If in dual screen layout with full screen timeline enabled, then pressing e.g. +10 on the number pad does nothing, regardless of whether or not a clip is selected.
28. [UPDATE - fixed] Editing marker durations – you can’t just type ‘5.’ (as in, 5 followed by a full-stop) for 5 seconds, or ‘500’, it must be ‘00000500’, or else you must click on the specific part of the timecode you want to change
29. [UPDATE - does not apply to reduced timeline view, probably reasonable as is] Transitions do not show up when zoomed out beyond a certain point
30. [**UPDATE - fixed in 12.5.1**] ‘Switch To Timeline After Edit’ doesn’t work if you are in dual screen layout with Full Screen Timeline turned on
31. [UPDATE - fixed in v14 (last point only applies still for clip colours assigned in the timeline not at bin level)] Media pool clip color settings don’t carry over into timelines for 3d clips. They can only be assigned color (and show it) when set via the timeline instance of each clip. Furthermore, if you replace a clip in a timeline with a 3d clip, the 3d clip will take on the same clip color as the clip you replaced.
32. [UPDATE - fixed] This one may be just a problem with XMLs, but if you import an XML (from FCP7) that has 2 cross dissolve next to each other, then it will be brought in as one big cross dissolve between 2 clips instead of 2 fades to black.
