Please, I need advice so that I do not buy wrong parts for my PC build. There is a lot of money for me, so I can not afford to buy the wrong parts.

Would below computer work to working with footage shot in 4.6K RAW. I will only use the Davinci Resolve Studio 12.5, from cutting the film, grading and rendering. For the computer, I also have a DeckLink Studio 4K card to get 10-bit to my Eizo ColorEdge CG248-4K, which will be used as grading screen for the moment. I really hope this computer will be able to playback at 24 frames / sec while I work with what I am doing :-)

Motherboard:
ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS 2xSocket-2011-3

Internal memory / RAM, a total of 64 GB:
8x Kingston DDR4 ECC / Reg 2400MHz 8GB

Graphics card:
2x AMD FirePro W9100 16GB GDDR5

Processor / CPU
2x Intel Xeon E5-2690 Processor V4

CPU cooler:
2x Cooler Master Nepton 120XL CPU Cooler

Hard disk #1 (OS and applications)
1x Samsung 950 Pro 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD

Hard disk #2 (Work in progress)
1x Intel 750 1.2TB PCIe 3.0 SSD HHHL

Hard disk #3 + #4 (Temporary storage)
2x WD Black Desktop 2TB 3.5 "

Chassis:
Fractal Design Define XL R2 Black Pearl

Power Supply / PSU
Corsair AX 1500in, 1500W PSU

Operating System:
MS Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Many thanks in advance :D

Kind Regards

The two AMD GPUs don't look to be good choices (at all!), and this is crucial because raw decoding depends heavily on the GPUs. All the CPU power of your system won't help, if the GPU is a bottleneck.

Take a look at the nvidia GTX 1080 or nvidia Titan X Pascal instead, and compare prices and benchmarks with the AMD cards.

Thanks for the feedback :-)
Can you explain a bit deeper why my two graphics card is not good, because I want to believe that they are a much better choice than gaming cards.

First, I chose two Nvidia Titan X Pascal, but after reading about the AMD card and seen videos online, as below clip I changed my mind:

Sorry, couldn't submit link, but here is the id for one of the clip

Yes but the 2 gaming cards you suggested will not do 10bit colour in Resolve whereas the AMD FirePro will and is more than capable of 4.6k RAW 8-)

You could save some money and go v3 cpu's the price to performance is prob better and intel only slightly increased the performance in the v4 .

I think 2x Titan X (Pascals) would be better suited to your setup, You have 10bit output through the Decklink so the 2 titans would be sufficient in Ursa footage.

For 10 bit output one would use an I/O device and a calibrated monitor. Don't use the viewer for color critical work.

This statement is misleading at best but can also be seen as not accurate.

The NVIDIA GTX series cards, gaming cards, do process as we define in Resolve at 32bit float. Both AMD and NVIDIA cards can be used for both applications. Some models have 10bit display outputs on the card but that does not mean they can't process at 32 bit float.

So just to clarify are you saying that the AMD FirePro W9100 16GB is not able to edit 4k raw video in real time in resolve?... and that NVIDIA GTX series cards are capable of 10bit colour in desktop applications?

When it comes to editing then the AMD cards will be fine, what may cause an issue is when you start adding effects and colour grading as they aren't as powerful as the new Nvidia line which are a lot cheaper for better performance.

As to the 10bit that only becomes an issue if you want to connect 10bit computer monitors to your graphics card outputs. The rendering and output through the BM Decklink card can be in 10 bit regardless of the output through the graphics cards own sockets, so Peter is saying that it's not an issues as when it comes to rendering out to a finished file or outputting through the Decklink card it makes no difference if the Graphics card has 10 bit output or not.

I will do all the work steps in the Davinci Resolve Studio 12.5.
If we ignore the cost of two AMD Firepro W9100 is much more expensive than two Titan X Pascal cards, which card should I choose? I'm confused :?

The new Titan (Pascal) is faster no matter how you look at it (here's an example: 11 TFLOPS single precision floating point performance vs 5.24). It has much faster memory too (480GB/s vs 320) and that's very important in Resolve. Technology moves fast and the W9100 is somewhat "old." Still an amazing card, but not worth the price anymore, unless you need OpenCL performance or the extra VRAM (which you don't, in your given scenario).

Thanks for the feedback!
I replaced the AMD-cards to Nvidia Titan X Pascal and bought a couple of extra hard drives, so now the computer finally ordered :D

Hello,

I've read the whole topic about the creation of your new setup,
and I'm really interested about it because I'm in the same position as you.
I have to build a computer ready for the same purpose: Edit, Color Grade and maybe some CGI
4,6K RAW 25fps

With all your setup I have an approximative price of 13000€ (computer+monitor+DeckLink 4K 12G)
Is it near what you paid?

My main question is,
is it all this really needed ?
I've seen cheaper computers for 4K Raw editing (around 4000€ Computer only)
But Who's right?
I'd like to have Senior Colorist advices about that ..

Like the choice of 2x Intel Xeon E5-2690 v4 (2.6 GHz) (2300€ each)
is so much expensive.
Would a AMD Ryzen TR 2950X be not enough?

About the graphic card Nvidia TITAN X
seems that it has been replaced by the new RTX generations,
what do you think?
Would you still go for the TITAN X or go for something like the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti SEA HAWK X (1300€)

About PSU, Is really 1500w needed? Sounds too much I don't know

I need help on this, please understand that I'm still a young film maker and wants to learn,
but need the keys to get it all, thanks in advance
