Teranex Mini Resolve output signal unstable

PostMon Oct 03, 2016 9:43 pm

Just got a Teranex mini SDI>HDMI 4k to use as 3D LUT box, and output signal from Resolve is unstable. Latest ver 4.7 firmware. I'm on a Windows 10 box and a decklink SDI 4k ver 10.8

using Media express to decklink for playback, Teranex HDMI output to TV is fine at HD, UHD 23.98.
using Nucoda from a kona 3g to Teranex is fine too.
using resolve 12.5.2 to Teranex, HDMI to TV will display a signal on pause, but at playback starts to drop out and goes black. 23.98 p or psf 1080, UHD - same thing. Only when playing back from Resolve.

this is to a Vizio M50C1 on inputs 1-4. on HDMI input 5 (which is specifically for UHD 60p) it will accept the Teranex signal, but only on this #5 input, while all inputs work fine for the other playback configs.
Why is playing back from Resolve to the Teranex a problem?

So the box seems really unstable from resolve can't figure out why. Different projects of different types, get lots of picture dropouts. Again if I'm feeding from Kona card or from any other source into decklink it's stable. Just resolve/decklink is flaky.

I wonder if this could be some HDMI/HDCP flakiness. There are some HDMI splitters available on Amazon (you have to nose around to find them), and generally one side of the splitter will remove HDCP. Do that, and it's possible all the glitches will go away.

HDCP is a thing of pure e-vil. :(

There is no HDCP here at all- capture cards don't touch HDCP as this is not needed.
It will be simply bug, specially that author uses 10.8 drives. Don't ever use first version of some major change to drives as they are in 99% the worse possible version.

Hey Peter.
10.7 doesn't fix it. I also tried 10.8.1 and same problem.
What I have noticed is that it will playback stable picture output from Teranex fine from the Resolve edit page - just not from color or deliver pages.
Again picture from Teranex is fine from Media Express to Decklink or Nucoda to Kona 3G.

Just tried DV 10.8.2 an resolve 12.5.3. Same behavior. Edit page plays out fine. Color page no go. Why?

Hey Paul.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm looking at getting the Teranex Mini to kill two birds with one stone - SDI to HDMI and also as a LUT box, but i'm a little worried that the issues you mention haven't been solved.

Cheers,
Harry.

Sorry to hear about your issue.
This happened to me twice. In my case it was related to playing back long sequences in the Color page from one long timeline. My workaround was to split the timiline in two sequences, part one and two of the film in two timelines. It seems to be that the Color page demands more processing.

mine is playing back fine.

I'm not sure of my teranex mini or desktop video firmware at this point (I'm not in the office)
but the mini runs 8 or 9 hours a day, 5 days a week and has been pretty stable. I think twice last week I had to cycle the power cable as the mini display had a picture, but the output to the UHD was black. Unplugged and plugged in and all was good.

I updated the firmware when I first got it...based on a post from you about the fan not turning off, and I don't think it has updated since. I'll check on Monday.

mine is fairly stable as well, occasionally looses it if i switch from hd to uhd or whatever.
the problem is it won't accept some stable signals that everything else will.

Paul, can you provide a project export drp that produces the issue of unstable/no video on the Color and Deliver pages, but good video on the Edit page?

Is the issue source material dependent? Or will it happen with a color bar generator? If it will happen with generators, a project export of that would be ideal.

I'll have to check but if I recall it's with any project on both my Mac and PC systems.
