Aces and broadcast safe

PostTue Oct 18, 2016 1:32 am

Hello, I`m grading a video in ACEScc 1.0 for television (Rec 709 color space).

Does the Broadcast Safe option (-100 0 / -110 -10 / -120 -20) works in the same way as in the Davinci YRGB color space?

Other doubt: When in Acescc, using the Rec 709 ODT and no broadcast safe, will i be exporting in a limited Rec 709 space and by that, inside a broadcast safe situation?

Thanks.

Broadcast safe works fine in ACES.
ACES can generate illegal levels after the ODT so it is not guaranteed to be safe unless using the safe settings.
Broadcast safe settings only apply after rendering; they are not visible during grading on the colour page.

I can see visible differences when enabling broadcast safe in the colour page.

Scott is correct. I meant to say that if you display illegal levels in the view menu in Resolve, changing the broadcast safe settings makes no difference to the illegal levels colour overlay. The legaliser seems to be after this display option. If you turn it off, the broadcast safe settings make a visible difference.

Scott, i turned the Broadcast Safe on/off in different presets (-20 -120 / -10 -110) and saw no difference in my monitor (via decklink).

That should indicate that there's nothing outside -10/110. If you set it to 0/100 you should see some changes. You can see it working by cranking the saturation up.
