How to get equal loudness along the clip/video

PostFri Feb 10, 2017 6:04 pm

Hello
I've got one hour video from meeting where many people speak with different loudness.
So some parts are quiet, some are loud.
To get equal loudness for all speakers I insert (double) audio loudness keyframes at begining and end of almost each speaker. And adjust volume by moving up or down volume line between the keyframes.
It is labor-intensive way to level each speaker.

Is there a way to equal all speakers in terms of loudness?
Can be done it somehow automatically?
Or at least manually but in more simple and quicker way?

Hello Andrzej -

You could try the free LoudMax Audio VST plugin to equal out your loudness. I found this plugin in my quest for a similar reason.

It is free and it has worked for me, hope it does for you.

I think the correct answer, is no: you have to actually MIX the material in order for it all to sound at an optimum volume. For that, you need a calibrated room with the speakers at a predictable level (typically 85dB as a reference level for theatrical, and 79dB for TV/web/home video). There is no automatic way to do this -- it requires time and skill.

as usual Marc speaks words of wisdom.

I just wish Resolve supported Mackie Control surfaces for mixing.

As much as I hate loudness equalization through compression, I installed the LoudMax Audio VST plugin and can confirm it's working like a charm....

that seems the equivalent of "autocolor" for audio...

yeah it probably is like autocolor for audio - but reality is some of us will be shooting low budget corporate gigs - especially if its a meeting - and therefore a simple, if not correct/perfect solution is often needed.
