Proper Waveform

PostFri Feb 17, 2017 4:29 pm

I'm only 200 pages into the manual and a bit impatient on this one.

How to I get a proper waveform view in the timeline. Rectified view is just...wrong.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Have you clicked on the 'Timeline view options' icon on the timeline toolbar and turned waveforms on?

The waveforms are on.

I want the normal waveform view, on the right. Not the rectified view on the left.

Know how?

Seriously?

That's...disappointing for "professional" software.

Jim, that's a bit "harsh" of a comment. I am also an audio professional and I can tell you that I find the rectified view useable..although in all honesty I haven't yet been at all satisfied with any NLE's audio capabilities.

What I can tell you is that Blackmagic purchased Fairlight CMI last year, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Resolve 13 (or 14 if they're superstitious) brings some substantial improvements to the audio side of Resolve.

The waveform issue is actually pretty minor compared to poor audio routing options, poor implementation of AAF export and complete omission of OMF among other issues concerning audio in Resolve.

NAB is only a couple of months away, so let's hope that soon all of this will be addressed.

You can right click on the audio clip in the timeline and there's a "show both audio channels" selection in there.

I'd bet that most Resolve users use it for online editing and grading and leave audio stuff to audio dudes/dudettes who use proper audio tools to do said audio stuff.

Very hard to argue with that. They do need to greatly improve the handoff to Pro Tools and other audio editing programs.

I have an issue that the waveforms are very small. I know the audio is recorded correctly and I have increased the size of the tracks but there seems to be no way of making the waveform bigger apart from increasing the level of the audio,
