That's exactly want I want to know as well, as I can't get Audio working on my Linux laptop. Please can add full audio support out of the box, without having to rely on extra pieces of hardware? It really is a critical feature for any video editing program.

Hello

This is great to see Blackmagic getting linux versions out there. We are in the process of making our office as linux as it can be and this is a huge step.

Ia m hoping someone can help me with an issue I have getting the Desktop video driver to install.

Resolve is working fine although I am having issues with the Desktop video driver, i expect to have issues with the database too. I was running centos7 so i thought i would give it a try.

Here is the error:

I do not know if this comes from an installation issue or anything else but Resolve linux returns the error "Missing Look Up Table - 3D Lut Film Looks/Rec709 Kodak 2383 D55.cube" when I try to apply this 3D Lut (for exemple) on a video coming from a GH5.

I try this manipulation by following the example given by Aram K in one of his color grading tutorials for GH5 "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbYqowlQyj4" found on youtube.

Why this error under linux? (Aram K uses Windows)
How to correct it?

For information the error occurs both under Resolve Studio 12.5.6 and under 14b6 (and fresh CentOS 7.3 install).

Thank's

Hello Ian,

It would seem your issue is installing the Kernel Headers for your version of Kernel. Normally, they should be installed, but I cannot be 100% certain since I don't have a system running CentOS at the moment.

Run the following command:
Code: Select all
yum search headers

And see if this gives you any hits. If it does, then you can yum install it. Otherwise, you might need to activate the kernel repository to do that. Just make sure you download the exact same Kernel version the "uname -r" command gives you.

Hope that helps!

install kernel headers:

sudo yum install kernel-headers

- that should do the trick (unless you've installed latest mainline kernel - but I doubt you did :D ).

Hello Dwaine,

No, I have the same error with all 3D LUT film looks.

I have temporarily installed macos on the second hard disk of the same PC and it works. I also made this manipulation on my laptop which is still under windows 10 and it works, and always with the same video.

I looked if it was not a rights issue but apparently everything is ok. I still tried a chmod 777 on the / opt / resolve directory but no better results. ;-(

I just reviewed the logs and found this in the rollinglog.txt:

Is there a thread regarding installing Resolve on CentOS only?

I setting up a new build (Ryzen 1600, RX550 as a start from my 5 year old laptop) on CentOS but that far I got Resolve installed however in the application menu it was labeled as "unnamed"

Fusion was a dream to install since it uses a .run file (haven't worked on Linux for the last 5 years, been missing it so please excuse stupid terminology).

Now I'm looking for the link to the CentOS Resolve image file. I keep reading about the link being in the readme.txt file but I am still to locate it and I'm not interested in downloading a software archive only to get a readme file so that I can get a link to a download page for a software archive.

Mods: Can this thread be split. One thread for Installing Resolve on Linux, and another for installing Resolve on CentOS?

I originally started off with DaVinci Resolve which worked fine, but upon moving over to the studio version I now get the issue upon launch

bin/resolve: error while loading shared libraries: libCrmSdk.so.2.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I tried looking for the library online and trying to see if someone has ever had the same issue. I didn't find anything of anyone ever having a similar issue nor did I find anything on the library. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I am also running the most up to date version of Arch Linux.

Library is located at: /opt/resolve/libs/libCrmSdk.so.2.0

My guess is, that your installation is corrupted.

I have also a question. My installation of Studio is not saving some color correction settings - like saturation, hue vs sat curve etc. - in Studio 12.5, 14b6, 14b7. Anyone with same problem?

And I can also confirm problems with 10bit replay and no LUT.

Gentoo linux.

@Dwaine,

I just found the reason I have the error message "Missing Look Up Table".
It seems that there are missing files and directories in .LUT.
By copying these missing files and directories from a windows version to my linux configuration, it works.
I do not know why they are not created during the installation.
I tried a "update list" from the color management menu (project settings) but without success.
Is there any other manipulation to generate these missing files?

Quick question... How do I uninstall DaVinci Resolve? I've made my install of v 12.5 on Ubuntu 17.04 without solving some dependencies first so I pretty much botched the install. I've been looking left and right for the last day or so for anything that could shed some light on this but couldn't find anything of use (that, or I'm a pretty poor researcher). Just want to uninstall it so I can reinstall it with the dependencies satisfied. Thanks in advance.

yes -- it's really a pity, that it doesn't come with an reliable uninstaller. :(

but in fact most of the stuff just goes into '/opt/resolve', only a few files (mostly panel driver related) will be spread over your sytem directory -- especally '/usr/lib64'. but this particular directory shouldn't exist on a clean an well maintained ubuntu system anyway. it's one of the most obvious reasons, why the original resolve installer will not work on this family of linux distributions.

as a debian/ubuntu/mint user its always very unsatisfying, if you have to use proprietary installers, which do not give you all the nice protection against accidental file overwriting and reliable package removal capabilities of your systems software and dependency management. in many cases "checkinstall" is an appropriate tool to work around this shortcomings and generate deb-packages on the fly. but in the case of resolve, this simple solution unfortunately does not work. i finally wrote some scripts myself, which use docker, to run a slightly modified version of the installer in a container context and utilizes dockers capabilities to list differences in the filesystem overlays to report all affected files and repack them for debian/ubuntu/mint.

Which drivers are you trying to install and where from? Do you have headers for kernel-ml installed as well?
For a couple of months there have been problems with nvidia drivers and kernel 4.10 and above (they didn't compile unless you used a patched installer) - but new drivers are fixed and work without problems.
Mind that if you're trying to install driver from repos that probably won't work - those are tailored for official, stock Centos kernel, not a mainline one.
So you'd need to install via package from Nvidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html
I know it is not super straightforward (one of the reasons why Centos is sadly not really well suited for general public desktop use and quite a lot of people might be better of with OpenSUSE / Fedora / Ubuntu - I'd go OpenSUSE Leap if you're after enterprise grade distro) - but once you did this successfully it becomes easy next time. The trickiest part is disabling Nouveau driver (open source nvidia) first.
Here's a guide that looks about right, without missing any steps I think - even though it is for Fedora, identical steps should work on Centos:
https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/ ... dia-guide/
- the only exception is if you use EFI boot (and I guess there's big chance you are) you need to tweak grub2-mkconfig command so the path will guide to centos uefi folder not fedora :D . If I recall correctly (not near my workstation atm) it should look like this:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/centos/grub.cfg

Thanks Przemek,

I've been able to install and run Resolve 12.5.6 with the new 4.12.8-1 kernel-ml on a Lenovo Y500. I installed the kernel-mp-devel package for DKMS with the Nvidia 384.59 drivers, and that seemed to work. The 4.12 kernel-mp-headers conflict with the 3.10 headers and installing them would remove dependent packages including gcc.

I'm having less luck with my Xeon system, but will keep trying.

Cheers.

Ok so, since my previous post I've had a complete system crash (thanks Nvidia), so I did a total OS reinstall. In this new iteration, I have installed Resolve 14 but still no joy. This time I was able to perform a complete install and even managed to open Resolve, pass the quick tour intro, but it gets stuck at some sort of splash screen (mutter-dialog). I'm saying some sort of, because I have a sort of frame, but no images of any sorts, and the only way to get rid of this is to restart the computer. Any ideas, suggestions, recommendations? Again, thanks in advance.

Hi, I've spent all day and the day before to get resolve running on my Thinkpad X250 running Linux Mint..
..i've done a lot of updates and upgrades to my system to get openCL running - and it seems to be running now.
Resolve is still not starting properly though.. i'm getting two error messages:

1) No OpenCL Acceleration Hardware Detected!

2) The total number of OpenCL GPUs on chassis 1 (0) is less than the number configured (1).

This is strange, since OpenCL seems to be running on my system:

Code: Select all
./opencl-tools/print-devices
platform 0: vendor 'Intel(R) Corporation'
  device 0: 'Intel(R) HD Graphics'
  device 1: 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5600U CPU @ 2.60GHz'
platform 1: vendor 'Intel(R) Corporation'
  device 0: 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5600U CPU @ 2.60GHz'
platform 2: vendor 'Intel'
  device 0: 'Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 BroadWell U-Processor GT2'

looks like my graphics card is OpenCL enabled - right? So what am I doing wrong?

Please help!

Thanks so much!

Hello BMC.

We had a lot of trouble installing the 14b8 resolve on CentOS7.3. Blacklister "nouveau" and installing the Nvidia drivers was a pleasure. We added a Geforce GTX 1060 and 8GB of RAM. To our surprise, there are no sounds. I read in this forum that you should buy a card? Why not. But I already have a lot of expense, and there will soon be nothing left to buy the pro version. What card for this motherboard: Asus H81M-Plus. A small price would be at best. Thank you for your feedback.

Best regards

As I was installing it on a fresh system and after the tests I knew I'll be running on new mainline kernel (needed that to get proper support for my Wacom) I simply removed kernel-headers for the old, stock one.
Yeah, it has taken a couple of packages with it - that's true. But that's just package manager being goofy. I imediately reinstalled those (copied a list of packages that were removed to make it an easy process). This way I ended up with kernel-ml-headers and all the needed files.
You probably can do it without removing/reinstalling by using rpm command (is it "rpm -e"? the one that removes only entries in the database, it does not pull out files and dependencies ), but as it was fresh system I did the other way so I didn't have to dig up how rpm work (and avoided entering dependency mess).

It says " *** Error in `./resolve': realloc(): invalid pointer: 0x0000000010c3faa0 *** ". Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

It seems it is not loading LUTs with .cube extension.

I am running 12.5.6.017 on CentOS 17 with Geforce 1060.

Thanks.

Linux version not saving color grading correctly.

PostPosted: Mon Aug 28, 2017 5:19 pm

Hi,

First I noticed that the linux version just show color grading preview if Video bit depth is set to 8bits in project video monitoring preferences.

And when I save a project, close DaVinci and load again it do not show image for color graded clips.

It seems color grading parameters get out of scale after load. The same happens to grabbed stills.

If curves were adjusted the video scopes get no data and preview is black.

Making a small change in curve position it seems to recover image and video scopes get normal.

if a small adjustment were done in color well, after load it gets MUCH more intense. Like a small warn in hightlight make image gets black and yellow after load.

I am running 12.5.6.017 on CentOS7 with GeForce 1060 and 16Gb RAM Intel i7

The same happens in 14.

Thanks.

I got it to install fine under Ubuntu, about the only real issue is lib64/lib (just made a symbolic link)
Code: Select all
drwxr-xr-x 207 root root 20480 Aug 28 09:55 lib
drwxr-xr-x   6 root root  4096 Jul 26 08:30 lib32
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root root     3 Aug 24 08:48 lib64 -> lib

and installing links for the ssl/crypto stuff and/or the /opt/resolve/libs (I think the latest b8 came with them!? I forgot, not a big deal -- I literally forgot if I did that for b8).

I see ldd against pulse audio but still no audio in timeline. Does system level audio preview even work under CentOS/RHEL ?! or are you expected to have a DeckLink card of some sort to use the monitor output for audio even on "supported" Distros?!

--Doug (dx9s)

P.S.> Liking DaVincia Resolve but not able to get basic platform questions resolved before I take any plunge into purchasing the Resolve Studio and a DeckLink...

There is no audio without blackmagic hardware. Even on Blackmagic CentOS 7.

Also there are problems with 10bit playback in Colour tab on other distros other then CentOS7.

I don't have a solution, but the issue is graphics card related. I am not sure if a GPU is required, all my machines (including laptops) have recent nVidia cards. I think they have some CUDA minimum level, but not sure if that is ONLY if it's nVidia or it requires nVidia outright.

You stated you have Intel, which obviously won't support CUDA, but possibly OpenCL -- The system defaults to "Auto" (CUDA/OpenCL) so I guess that is probably the issue, OpenCL support on your chipset/software isn't supported (or software drivers need fixing).

That will save me time this weekend trying CentOS out. Thanks!

Now I guess what is the "perfect" DeckLink card to get? Are any known to work inside some Thunderbolt enclosure thingie? Any support USB 3.1 Gen 2?

From what I think I saw, everything for Linux is PCIe based and (worse case) might require compiling kernel drivers (which isn't a big thing as long as the source code is recent and up-to-date).

--Doug (dx9s)

EDIT: I could live with 8-bit playback/preview worse case if that still works.

I just got the Decklink Mini Monitor for about $150 USD, is a mini PCIe, works great and the drivers are available for any system on this site, I'm getting the audio out from the HDMI to a monitor with external audio I have.
I'm using Ubuntu Linux at the moment.

hope that helps

That's cool. I've been looking at the various DeckLinks and also saw the UltraStudio line. Looks like that Ultra line has either some PCIe card connectivity and/or Thunderbolt 2/3 (didn't look at all the permutations).

I was looking at Linux support and noticed it apparently does -- so from what I can tell, the DeckLink are PCIe and the UltraStudio stuff is external hardware connected via some PCIe card thing or PCIe over Thunderbolt (so also appears as PCIe to Linux host).

Anybody have any success or horror stories surrounding UltraStudio on Linux? (or for that matter DeckLinks). I've seen good things on the DeckLink card side!

On a SIDE note, was reading about the UltraStudio stuff and came across something rather weird?!

UltraStudio 4K -- Technical Specifications wrote:Media Express, Disk Speed Test, LiveKey, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and Blackmagic driver on Mac OS and Windows. Media Express, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and Blackmagic driver on Linux.

So if Linux gets everything except LiveKey and a Disk Speed Test. (Ubuntu's got nice disk speed tool already, even checks speeds on inside versus outside on spinning media) so only LiveKey is the issue if I am reading that correctly. I would need TB2 or TB3 to TB2 adapter to use on laptop or desktop. This is an interesting option -- needs further research.

UltraStudio 4K Extreme / Extreme 3 -- Technical Specifications wrote:DaVinci Resolve, Media Express, Disk Speed Test, LiveKey, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and Blackmagic driver on Mac OS and Windows. Media Express, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and Blackmagic driver on Linux.

Oh this one is more confusing.. It includes DaVinci Resolve (Studio?) are there three versions, DaVinci Resolve 'free' (limited features) some DaVinci Resolve 'paid' (more features) and DaVinci Resolve Studio 'paid' (even more features). I would want Studio, but this clearly doesn't indicate which one or is it assumed to be Studio ... the confusion is killing me. Oh and I see LiveKey and Disk tools for Windows/OSX... **BUT** it clearly states:

Code: Select all
... on Mac OS and and Windows. Media Express, Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility and Blackmagic driver on Linux.

which sounds like you **DONT** get a licensed copy of (assumed) DaVinci Resolve Studio for Linux?!

I am not trying to nit pick the marketing folks, Linux is a small market and confusion will arise from a platform that marketing folks probably have never seen in person. (I work closely with Marketing folks doing technical support and [web] application development myself on Linux based servers).

Any clarification here would be appreciated.

We have five versions of DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve; Mac, Windows and Linux, free download or from Apple App Store

DaVinci Resolve Studio; Mac, Windows and Linux, licensed via a dongle and soon also with an activation key. US$299 from BMD reseller or from Apple App Store

DaVinci Resolve Studio Advanced Panel; Only available the the Advanced Panel, licensed via a dongle and this supports Linux ProRes encoding, available from BMD reseller

Not saving color grading in Linux

Hi,

I installed DaVinci Resolve in my CentOS 7, I seems work fine.

But after I save a Project where was done color grading, when opening it again it seems color grading is bug.

it shows images all black, and no info on video scopes. But for example if you make a tiny adjustment in Curves it recoer the image. But adjust on Color Wheel get MUCH more intense colorizing every thing. It seems value get out of scale when loading again.

Another problem is that it fails to load all LUTs with .cube extension.

The same happens with 12.5.6 and 14.b8.

I am running on Centos 7 with GeForce 1060 Nvidia Driver Version 384.69.

By the way it would be great if Linux vesion could load H.264 Videos in free version.Working around transcoding to DNxHD

Anybody have any ideas?

Anybody come across a problem like this?

I would love to get a working version on Linux. Then I can mostly abandon windows and mac os.

I am still a little confused -- I understand that Apple wants to market lock out ProRes to Apple hardware so assuming the DaVinci Resolve Studio Advanced Panel (on Linux) will cost considerable more. And you need to remain on good terms with Apple so I won't go any further on this topic.

I am trying to count to five:
1) free Windows, Linux, OSX
2) Studio dongle Win/Lin/OSX
3) Studio w/ Key Win/Lin/OSX
4) Studio AP w/ key Win/Lin/OSX
5) ?

Just trying to clarify.

Still doesn't answer previous confusion about which version Comes with (for example) UltraStudio Extreme 3 for Linux. Assuming now that I think I understand more, Resolve Studio with Dongle POSSIBLY comes ?!

I am not trying to be rude, just there is a bit of confusion. If I talk to a reseller I might get more information but suspect they really don't know either.

Your answers are in the thread. But to start with you need some Blackmagic hardware if you want to hear sound with linux.

I've been struggling to get Resolve running under Debian Stretch. Every release since 14.0b6 have resulted in segmentation fault crash when starting. Last lines in log before crash is:

Should I interpret that as a problem with the DNxHR library or that perhaps the Nvidia Driver version 375.66 is not compatible with Resolve? I'm stuck at 14.0b5 for now.

Anyone else running Debian?
