Can't edit without a Mouse with a Scroll Wheel Click

PostWed Mar 15, 2017 8:28 pm

How can I mimic the Scroll wheel click if I don't have one?

If I don't have a mouse with a scroll wheel click I can't use 2 of the most basic functions in Davinci Resolve that I would guess everybody uses all the time!!!
1. When zooming in the frame in Edit or Color Tab I can't pan/move the picture around. I can only zoom into the center of the picture.
2. If I want to delete a bezier point or any point in a window such as a circle och curve I can't do this without the Scroll wheel click.

I have tried all possible keyboard buttons I can think of but no result.
Please help!

I can't be the only one being highly limited by this every time I'm on a laptop?

Davinci Team - Just add an Alt + Mouse click = Scroll Wheel Click

Magic Mouse?

In that case, do you have MagicPrefs?

Call me crazy, but my advice is just to buy a $10 wired 3-button optical mouse.

+1 for a new mouse. I use a gaming mouse with programmable buttons and it's great.

But it would still be 10-bit, right?

Eh, $10 bucks, 10 bits. It's only a buck a bit.

I always say, Steven Scott at Technicolor does all the $200 million Marvel movies with a $12 HP mouse and a $25 keyboard (and nothing else except time and skill), and those movies look great.

They do look great. Wonder if Steven can add some depth to the story lines while he's at it !

Thanks for the reply (some pretty funny) !!!

It's mostly a big deal for me when I'm doing minor editing on the field on a laptop. (zooming into the picture to se details and only being able to zoom into the center!)
Buying a gaming mouse, sure that would do the trick, but that is one more thing to bring to the set, and one more USB port.
Is there a reason Davinci Team is not simply adding a Alt or Cmd + click to fix this?

Also when copying grades in the colortab you need the scroll wheel click.
I'm I missing something?
I really think there must be a reason, this cannot be a blunder!?

You could use a program like bettertouchtool and rebind it yourself.

You can limit to certain applications.

I am sure there are plenty of other options too :-)

Is not a blunder, it is how the designer decided that should work. being the linux the hero machine, they felt that a 3 way mouse +wheel is the standard.

you probably can find those mouse wireless, although a decent 10$ wired does it all.

I'll wait and see if Davinci TEAM will ad a fix to this before installing third party trackpad hacking.

If there is no reason stopping them from adding a Alt or Cmd+click I'm sure they will do that pretty swift.

I agree with you Walter that it works the way the designer wanted it to work.
I'm saying it's a blunder that they put 3 frequently used and important functions on a click that some users don't have access to.

The other day I was trying to delete a point in a curve, I tried all the clicks and tried combining them with keyboard shortcuts, even googled it! Then I realized I had not tried clicking the scroll wheel botton. It's just not a very basic click these days. Millennials probably don't even know what it is!

Yes it works.. but more accessible is better.

Far better, not in the least to prevent carpal tunnel or arm issues, than a mouse is using a professional track ball mouse where you move the ball using fine finger control and click with the thumb (don't use the ones where you use the ball with your thumb!), some also have a built-in scroll ring. But you obviously can't click on a ball. I personally recommend the Kensington trackbal (*disclaimer: I have no connections with Kensington whatsoever).

At least I would expect a keystroke or a click with a modifier to allow an alternative to the middle mouse click operation. I think that is very reasonable.

It's covered thoroughly in the Resolve manual and in the Help menu.

Shift+draw a box over points you want deleted+backspace/delete (Mac) does it.
