R3D show as offline media in Red Rocket-X active

PostTue Mar 21, 2017 10:46 am

HI, all

I have just installed Red Rocket-X Card in my Mac pro,
but R3D files show as offline media after active "Use Red Rocket if available".

I have re-installed the newest driver "REDRocketX_2.1.34.0" and Davinci Resolve 12.5.4. also get the same problem...

Finally, I found the reason...Davinci Resolve recognise "Red Rocket-X" as "Red Rocket". Red Rocket Card can't decode the new R3D format files (Helium), that's why R3D show as offline...

I have also check the card in Redcine-X Pro, It can recognise "Red Rocket-X" correctly, I sure I haven't installed wrong driver... Just only can't recognise correctly in Davinci Resolve....so strange....

Red Rocket-X does not currently support Red Helium debayering.

If you are using Helium files, you need to uncheck the "Use Red Rocket if available" check box in Resolve Preferences - Video I/O and GPU.

Then Resolve will debayer the Helium files using GPU processing.

Note however, that the Red Rocket-X is STILL decompressing the Helium files, which is a huge help if you don't have a 28 or more CPU core system.

I only know "Red Rocket" (not X card) doesn't support Red Helium,
Whick means Davinci resolve specially downgrade "RED ROCKET-X" as "RED ROCKET",
that's why recognize my card as "RED ROCKET" in Davinci Resolve's Preference?? NOT "RED ROCKET-X"

I remember that old ver. showed "RED ROCKET-X" in preference....

If we did use to show the card as a Rocket-X in past versions, we apparently no longer do.

The driver shown is only valid for the Rocket-X card, so that's what Resolve is seeing.

Everything I posted earlier still stands.

I got it...orz ...

Which means I want to get back 5k, 6K Dragon Red file (Sorry, I checked the file was all Dragon Red, not Helium Red) & can play in realtime, I only have 2 choice:

1. Buy a new PC, get more CPU core and Powerful Display card.
2. Downgrade back to old ver.

I wonder why support in old ver Davinci Resolve , don't support in new ver ??

Thank you for your reply.

I don't understand the question. The Rocket-X card will work fine in Resolve for all footage except Helium footage.

Are you saying that with the Rocket card selected in Resolve preferences, that Red footage other than Helium footage is also not working? If so, there's some issue, because standard Red footage other than Helium footage should work fine with the Rocket-X selected.

And again, the Rocket-X card is also decompressing the Helium footage, even when Resolve Preferences is set to not use the Rocket. The only difference with Helium footage, is that Resolve has to do the debayering.

I am sorry, I make a mistake.

No Helium footage! Because I could not see the red files, I assumed that must be Helium footages...I remember "It can't see the newest format with Red Rocket", so I think my Red footage must be Helium,...But I really make a big mistake...

Actually, I double checked my footages, All my footages are 5K and 6K RED Dragon format...

RED ROCKET
- supports all MYSTERIUM, MYSTERIUM-X, and Monochrome R3D files.
- does not support RED DRAGON® and RED DRAGON Monochrome R3D files

RED ROCKET X
- supports all HELIUM, RED DRAGON, RED DRAGON Monochrome, MYSTERIUM®, MYSTERIUM-X®, and Monochrome R3D files.

THE QUESTION IS :
I can't see my RED DRAGON Footage with RED ROCKET X in Davinci Resolve 12.5.4
RED DRAGON become Offline Media.
Only I off "Use Red Rocket if available", then RED DRAGON file become normal.

I am sorry for the confusion...

What is the resolution of your Dragon footage?

Is it possible for you to post a small sample of the Dragon footage which is not working with the Rocket-X enabled to a file sharing service and provide a link to the sample?

My mistake again.....5760 x 3240...orz
some footages are Helium footage...only can't watch the Helium footage....Red Dragon footage is normal...

I am sorry to waste your time...and thank you for your helping...

one more question...

Can I only on "Use Red Rocket if available" for Red Dragon format and mix with Helium footages...
I don't want to waste my Red rocket-x card....

Right.

If you have mixed footage in the timeline, such as Dragon and Helium, and you have "Use Rocket If Available" checked, it will not play the Helium footage, but will play the non-Helium footage.

If you need to see Helium footage, the "Use Rocket If Available" will have to be unchecked.

But the Rocket is still helping you with the Helium footage. This is important to note. If you have reasonable GPU's available, and you are not using a crazy timeline resolution, like 8K, you will probably still get real time Full Res Premium decode playback speed. If you are on a MBP or iMac, probably not. But Half Res Good would likely be close to real time playback. Also remember you can set the Camera Raw - RED - Play Quality to a lesser value to maintain real time playback speed.
