No CUDA hardware acceleration detected!

PostMon Mar 27, 2017 4:08 pm

Hello,

I Davinci keeps telling me to quit and install a cuda accelerated GPU.

The story:

Once upon a time, I bought a GTX 980 from MacVIdCards.com which came flashed and worked perfectly for about a year for my Mac Pro 5,1. After awhile the new drivers came with bugs. Don't know if there was pressure on Nvidia from Apple or what but the drivers started causing panics in adobe. Trust me I troubleshooted this issue for months. Finally bought a Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 7950 and when I open resolve it still is in love with CUDA and I need it to know that CUDA has left and is never coming back.

The main issue here is not the message, more so that when I open a project it crashes and when I try to make a new project and import an AAF it crashes. This is not good.

How on earth do I do this?

Davnci 12.5
Mac Pro 5,1
OS 10.10.5

P.S. I already tried installing the CUDA driver this morning to see if that would fix however at that point it told me that it now needed the hardware which since I am sporting an AMD that is not going to happen so I uninstalled and back to square one.

Thanks,

Taylor

If you don't have an NVIDIA graphics card, you don't need CUDA.

If Resolve can't detect ANY viable graphics card to use, it will generally put up the CUDA message.

When you get the CUDA warning, and Resolve has no GPU to use, as soon as you select a clip in the Media page, or load a project or XML, Resolve is going to crash.

We'd need to see a Resolve Diagnostics log to see what's up with the AMD card.

Thank you for your reply,

I was looking at those earlier and found that it does see the GPU. You have made me really nervous about the compatibility of my GPU.

Here is the Debug log(is this the right one?):

Thanks,

If you could do a Diagnostic logs dump and link to that file, it could be quite helpful.

With Resolve open (don't load existing projects or click on any media) hold down the Option key and select the Resolve Help menu. This will expose the "Create Diagnostics Log On Desktop" menu.

Something else to check in Resolve Preferences - Video I/O and GPU. Make sure GPU processing mode is set to Auto, and not CUDA.

Thanks Dwaine,

I know these things are seemingly obvious but I couldn't get into the project from my original user. It kept crashing however, I was able to create a new user and go into the preferences and check auto. Restarted and we are good to go!

Thanks again!

Hi, I recently downloaded davinci resolve 12.5.5 and am getting the same error message "No CUDA hardware acceleration detected"
How do i run a diagnostic logs dump?
Where is the "option" key on windows keyboard?
GPU processing mode is set to auto. Still have the error message.
Here are my specs: (let me know if you need anything else)

On Windows, you hold the Alt key while selecting the Resolve Help menu.

You don't have enough system RAM:

Minimum system requirements for Windows
Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
16 GB of system memory is recommended and 8 GB is the minimum supported
Blackmagic Design Desktop Video version 10.4.1 or later
NVIDIA/AMD/Intel GPU Driver version – As required by your GPU

And you don't list what graphics device is in your system. But assuming you have the standard NVS3100M graphics listed for that model, the CUDA Compute level support is too low to run Resolve.

Hi There,

I just installed Davinci Resolve 14 Studio. Everything okay, till I started te program and got the message No Cuda Hardware Selected.

I have a HP EliteBook 8770W with a Nvidia Quatro K3000M GPU. All cores are active. However Davinci does not sees Cuda and does not start up.

I read in this forum from Dwaine Maggart:

Resolve 11 required CUDA compute level 1.3 support.

Resolve 12 required CUDA compute level 2.0 support.

Resolve 14 requires CUDA compute level 3.0 support.

Is this the case maybe that the K3000M is not supported 'level 3.0' or has it to do with an other issue and/or GPU requirement.

Ps. It is a pity that Davinci is not giving the minimum technical requirements, before somebody is bying an upgrade version. With 12.5 and 14 public beta everthing was fine.

Thanks Harold

Hello,

I thought I left a message/question, but can't find mine anymore. Therefore I try again. Maybe somebody can help me.

I have a HP EliteBook 8770W, I7 Laptop/DAW with a Nvidia Quatro K3000M GPU (with CUDA support). With Davinci Resolve 11, 12.5 and 14 public beta everything works fine. I upgraded to 14 Studio and got the message:

'No CUDA hardware acceleration detected' and than Davinci crashes.

Is somebody familiar with this message in conjunction with the Quatro K3000M or comparable GPU. I read something about level 1, 2 and 3. Davinci Resolve 14 Studio needs the latest?? Is this the issue. What is the alternative? I read a lot abot this issue, but can't find a suitabe answer for me.

Otherwise I have to fall back to version 12.5. However, the project files are made in version 14, so I can't import them anymore.

Ps. It is a pity that Davinci Resolve do not give a minimum system / GPU requirement by the upgrade to version 14 Studio.

Regards Harold

That GPU has CUDA Compute Capability 3, which is good for Resolve 14.

So something else is going on.

Logs might be helpful.

Something else to try: When Resolve comes up on the Project Manager screen, hold the <ALT> key and press the <,> (comma) key. This should bring up the Resolve Preferences window. In Video I/O and GPU, set the GPU processing mode to OpenCL, Save the prefs and restart Resolve, and see if that works.

Hi Dwaine,

Thanks for your answer.

To come into the Preference screen I use <CTRL> <,>. It is Windows. I change the VideoI/O and GPU to OpenCL and start again the program. It works, everything looks okay. But the system becomes slow. Video and audio stutters. So this is not the solution.

Setting back to CUDA, same problem, it crasches. Trying all kind of parameters in the NVIDIA config screens. No difference.

Is this a bug in Davinci. As said with the public Beta 14, it was okay.

If there is no solution I have to go back to previous version 12.5 Studio or Public Beta 14, although missing features with the latter. And wait for the final stable version?

I'm not familiair with log dumps. I did an Event log application, see attached. For me it is unreadable. I think it gives you not the right info.

Thanks Harold

NVIDIA Quadro K3000M

Version 10.18.13.5404, 2015. Windows upgrade said, this is the latest one. I can't find a newer version on the NVIDIA site. In there list this model is not mentioned anymore?

With other programs the Cuda works fine, so with Davinci Resolve 12.5 free and Studio and as said with Public Beta 14 it works fine.

I tried change all kind of parameters and to remove (Revo uninstaller) and reinstall, etc. No change.

Ps, the first time I installed the program, Davinci ask for the Davinci audio drivers set up. If I do an install now, I don't get this option anymore. Another thing is that Davinci sees the panels, although I see no thumbnail anymore under programs. I don't use panels, so it is not an real issue for me, but it confuses me.

That is driver version 354.04, which is very old.

Go to the NVIDIA driver download site and download and then install the current driver for the K2000, which is 385.08.

Hi Dwaine,

It works. The images/footage runs smoothly. That is the good news. And many thanks for your support. The bad news, there is not. I'm so happy that I can work in Davinci Resolve 14 Studio (Beta). It was a problem in between my older driver (which works for the other verions okay) and the more GPU power version 14 needs, I suppose.

My problem was:
Windows gave no good option for upgrading display driver. Windows says ít is the latest driver', nor the HP update option from my HP Notebook gave the right option. So the Nvidia driver site gave me:

385.08-quadro-grid-desktop-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe.

The K3000M is supported. I made the mistake before, not to select Notebook in the pull down menu. Here I could select my GPU. In the other list my GPU is not mentioned. I think this is the reason you advise me to pick the K2000 driver. This should work also, although there is difference in the memory speed, I read in several game fora.

Again, many thanks. I like the program so much. But to be honest I could live with 12.5, if there was no solution for Cuda. For the price this one alone is a good deal. Version 14 offers so many more, I never need them all. This is for the real professional world and that for the same fantastic price.

Harold

My (humble) setup:
HP EliteBook 8770W, I7, 16Gb, 2x SSD
Dell Ultrasharp 27 inch calibrated wide gamut monitor
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, NLE (with the NLE in Davinci and bad support in formats/codecs, I use this program not so often anymore. Adobe Premiere Pro CC I can not comment or judge. Should be a great program too with Lumetri, etc.)
Adobe Audition, external DAC and monitors
Use many tools, such as:
VirtualDubMod (VFW/.avi). Support 8 and 10 bit x.264)
myFFmpeg (to my opinion best GUI for FFmpeg), use 8 and 10 bit builds. So I can tweak (more options) f.i. for the H.264 / H.265, so actually better to fine tune than in Davinci for Delivery in these formats.

Hello,

I have just downloaded and installed Resolve 14. But I am getting that error message with Resolve not finding any CUDA capable GPUs.

My video card is the NVS 5400m. Is it enough?

NVS 5400M only has CUDA Compute 2.1 support, which is not good enough for Resolve 14. Should be OK with Resolve 12.5.

I have Windows 7 64bit, and a GeForce GTX 750. When I start Resolve 12.5 which I got with a new Video Assist 5", it gives me the 'No CUDA Acceleration Hardware Detected!' message. I don't know what the CUDA software driver is, is it the same as the GPU driver? I remember updating the graphics driver, about a year ago, and it caused complete havoc with Premiere Pro so I went back to the last version.

According to GPU-Z it is CUDA enabled and has a 5.0 rating. The card is not listed in the legacy card list.
I cannot find the Video I/O and GPU option in preferences perhaps this is not available in the free version.

Pease can you help as I would quite like to see what Resolve is like?

CUDA is a separate installation.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Correct. All the CUDA stuff Resolve requires is in the driver.

Cureent Resolve is only supported on Windows 10, so your Windows 7 could be an issue.

12.5 had a minimum requirement of Windows 8.1, so 7 might still be an issue.

At any rate, if you could provide a Resolve log and Windows System Information .NFO file, that would be helpful.
