The elevator seems to go straight from 12 to 14!

You can't fool us, BMD... we know 14 is really 13....

The 12.5.x version is the version that was supposed to be the 13th (commercial or positional strategy in the market?)
V14 does not shock me unless the BMD team is superstitious to call it "V13"?

(Superstition: are you there?)

I have a feeling that the post industry is getting ready for quite a salvo from BMD. It seems like all of the competing color grade suites are gearing up to launch initiatives to get more people using their tools.

Competition is ultimately good for everybody: users, post companies, clients. I think the tools we have wouldn't be nearly as good if there weren't good alternatives to do the same job with different products. Choices are good.

We'll know Monday morning.

BMD is one of those companies which is very tight-lipped.

We press members do not get advance NDA briefings as we do from other vendors.

That's the way they roll and that's fine with us. Does make our work a little harder because those vendors who do give us advance information allow us to have our stories ready to go the moment of release.

So I can honestly tell you that I don't know what's coming and when.

Agreed. That's why I'm so intrigued by what the other color grade suite vendors will do in response. It will keep things interesting :)

resolve 14 must be a major upgrade and correct these too many bugs. avid will launch media composer first and I think Adobe will do the same in the next month. there are competitors in face of BMD (for free tools).

Their Spring update just dropped. I wouldn't expect much more from Adobe for another six months at least.

I do hope Resolve 14 will catch up to other NLE's capabilities. Resolve already has world class color tools, but leaves much to be desired as an NLE. Filling in those gaps would go a LONG way towards making BMD a proper one-stop-shop, from camera all the way through client delivery (at least for smaller projects).

Guys.... the performance....

CUDA performance on my 1080 Ti in a 5.1 Mac Pro is up 45-60%. In Standard Candle:

66 blur increases from 10 fps to 14.5 fps
6 TNR increases from 13,5 to 21,5 fps

With 18 blur nodes I get 51 fps.

Also.... there is now a 'Metal' mode in addition to OpenCL and CUDA. Metal performs equal to CUDA on my Mac Pro.

Good job, BMD! For real!

Can you have both version 12 and 14 installed on one machine?

For those who have the Dongle, do we get the 'studio' features in 14?

Never mind, I see it does.

Yes, no problem. Same goes for the normal version side by side with the Studio version. Also possible.

I'm so excited!
The $1k price of the Studio version was holding me back from having the extra features, especially the 4K DCI capability, but now I hear that it has been reduced to $299.
That, and a real audio editor! WOW!!
I just hope the system requirements haven't been upped too much. I am running on the edge now.

Minimum Requirements for DaVinci Resolve 14 Studio - Windows

Do I really need the Blackmagic Video and the Red Rocket drivers for Windows?
I don't have any cameras feeding my PC and don't have a Red Card.

Watch: In-Depth with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 14 at NAB 2017
http://nofilmschool.com/2017/07/in-depth-blackmagic-davinci-resolve-14-nab-2017

"Even for long time Blackmagic users, the hardware requirements of Resolve have been too steep for many entry-level filmmakers and post-production professionals. Now ten times faster than its previous iteration, DaVinci Resolve 14 is built to be reliably run on most computers and laptops."

Well, you need some kind of proper video I/O for monitoring, but you don't need a Red Rocket driver if you have no Red Rocket.

I believe I have the O part of the I/O with my dual desktop monitors, but I'm simply doing post on files from a GH4 - so no I(nput).
Is this workable?
Thanks
