Would love to be able to sort Smart bins by markers I've made so it displays clips including markers with certain flags, words, notes etc. Doing an initial edit through sequences and I'm marking them to add specific notes to certain scenes in the timeline during the breakdown and it would be nice to later in the edit process to be able to find them easily through smart bins or some other way.

timeline template

PostPosted: Sun Aug 27, 2017 10:31 am
by Jean Claude
Hi,

Is it possible when creating a timeline from a clip to have the ability via a listbox to call a timeline template.

Example:
Today, with a clip that has 8 mono tracks, I can create a TL from the clip by stating that the TL has 1 video track and 8 mono tracks. Once created, it is necessary to rename the 8 tracks each time so that it corresponds to a format of bus 7.1.

Desired evolution:
First of all, for example for the template "7.1_8CH_MONO", I define (some by in the USER preferences or ?) that the TL must have 1 video and 8 Monos tracks and that each track must be named in such and such a way. In addition, it may be possible to define the desired bus format in advance.

Thanks.

On Burn In tab:
Add the option to add "Davinci clip number in timeline" as burn in
Or give easy option to manipulate timeline clips metadata to add the clip number to one of the fields that can be burn in

New delivery Tab option: Fusion Delivery

There is Fusion Connect. Delivery tab : It would be nice if there would be a new option to call "Fusion engine" to generate Prores on Windows.

Here are a few of my suggestions:
1) Full native audio support in Linux
2) Facility to easily Normalise audio
3) Some basic animation features (e.g. drawing circles / arrows in real time on the video)
4) Support for more file types on import / export.

It may seem like a small thing, but the ability to resize all the windows, like the inspector & viewers both horizontally and vertically. Also being able to organize all the windows in the exact way I need them would be great, in moving from Premiere to Resolve, that's the thing I've missed most. In Premiere I had everything setup the way that worked best for me.

I know that is not the same, but you can load a timeline in the source viewer and cut a potion in the main timeline: you will need to decompose in place and you're very close to what you need...

That's an extremely good idea -- I hope they'll consider doing this. My cheap workaround is just to duplicate the timelines and have "version 1" of those shots on one and "version 2" on the other, but your way would be 1000 times faster.

All Navigation Shorcuts Work Across All Pages

Okay, I am almost ready to blow my brains out over this. The fact that shortcuts do not work across all pages is driving me crazy.

; and ' should bring you to the beginning or end of a clip. On the Fairlight Page they do nothing.
Up Arrow and Down Arrow should bring you to the previous or next edit/clip. On the Fairlight Page they do nothing.

I could go on. While the Fairlight Page is by far the worst offender, but it's not the only one.

We need to have full navigation keyboard and menu commands on all pages. And they need to be uniform across pages.

Sorry for the "rant" and thank you so much for the help!

Improve the GUI’s language around remote rendering.

1. Prevent a computer on the network from being selected as a remote rendering option if that machine doesn’t actually have remote rendering enabled.

2. Allow the “Any” selection to divvy jobs to the local machine as well as the network machines with remote rendering enabled.

Oh my god, where do I start:

- ABILITY TO RESIZE AND REPOSITION ALL THE WINDOWS AND TABS
- Shortcuts for preview overlays (qualifier, power window, etc)
- Disable selected node to work with a selection of nodes. Maybe I want to disable 5/12 nodes and not want to double click each one and press CMD-D
- Option to enable or disable the stupid magnetic timeline that I have no idea in what beta version of 14 was added
- Consistent shortcuts on all the pages
- A lut browser inside the gallery page so we can easily preview or add luts to nodes. Who the hell still uses endless right click menus?
- Some sort of option to turn a power window bezier point back to linear or back to bezier. When I draw masks point by point, I want a mix between bezier curves and straight angles. Maybe look at how Adobe does this, a simple control or command click on the point and goodbye handles
- Oh and please stop calling masks power windows. They are masks, everyone in the industry calls them masks. I'm sure glad you didn't decide to give keyframes a goofy name like "mobile points" or whatever. Repeat after me: MASKS

It's shocking that all these features are missing, it's version 14 already!

2) In the colour page, I'd love to be able to customise the clip info tab.

3) MXF OP-Atom wrapped pro-res renders. Avid supports them, why not DaVinci?

4) Support for Go Pro and and DJI drone LUTS in Colour Space Transform (It's amazing for Sony F5 footage).

I just used Resolve in an end-to-end ingest to delivery workflow for a project with extreme short deadline, and I was overally pretty happy. However, several improvements still can be made:
  1. Keyboard shortcuts - when clicking Cancel on dialog to set the name of the new set do not close the preferences dialog causing the loss of assigned shortcuts. Two save buttons (keyboard shortcuts and preferences) are so similar that I got caught with it multiple times.
  2. Love the trim/select modes, but would still appreciate ctrl/cmd+drag to change the mode to the opposite one (trim when in select, select when trim).
  3. Pan effect for clips - so much easier to set sometimes than record automation pan for the whole track (which is also gone when the project is saved, but logged that as a bug already)
  4. More compatibility for audio plug-ins. I've got Waves Diamond bundle, and Audition is showing 132 of them, while Resolve is only showing 15 or so. That said, an ability to organize audio plugins into bins/tags would be great as well.
  5. Dynamics on Submixes and Master (to set a limiter for example).
  6. Ability to chain Submixes to other Submixes.
  7. Layered Audio Editing icon switch and Show Audio Layers in Fairlight tab (like snapping or link)
  8. This one is a biggie: either a waveform editor for audio clips or an ability to send a selection to a different application (I would be using Audition in this case).

My 100th post :) making it count
(even if its a repost)

Why are all controls in the Qualifier window limited to 1 decimal place? this makes for crude adjustments where fine tuning is so needed.

I find it especially frustrating on low sat values. Where on a similar hue the difference between 0.3 to 0.4 is often the difference between too much and not enough.

Is it a some technical limitation preventing higher resolution on these controls?

Because if not, I believe it would considerably upgrade this tool's abilities.

follow up to this, it works well for conforming, but boundry violations are an issue with anyone's opticalflow no matter how good, it would be great to be able to draw/ track boundries - similar to DS & Mamba (assumeing Mystika as well), have not tried Fusion, but if that functionality is on offer there it might be worth porting to Resolve.

ball 2 = RGB math; pivot
ring 2 = RGB math; contrast
ball 3 = L*a*b math; A+B only
ring 3 = L*a*b math; contrast, pivot set to .5 (master saturation)
knob 123 = RGB lift
knob 456 = RGB gamma
knob 789 = RGB gain

but i'd be betting only a few others would want that, so hence the request for custom mapping

+1. Personally the 1st one (or kind of) has been one of my oldest wish. Actually not onscreen but : ability to open TL in small tabs above the current one. Ala FCP7 but also many others I think... (Opening a TL in the viewer is not the same, though sometimes suitable, because you don't have access to what's inside if you don't perform a couple of useless extra actions, like decompose in place and switching there and fro ).
+1 for subtitle generator too, and also to definitely fix the famous 2nd line alpha BG of the text one.

I agree with the question but don't understand the answer tip. D'you mean a sort of turning each LUT into a still grade to see it in the gallery ?

I also agree with the one click option to switch several node versions at a time. I currently make a specific group and workaround with group and versions, but it's not always very handy.

Would love to have the ability to display somewhere within the Edit page UI timecode at playhead data for all tracks in the active timeline ... perhaps as overlays within the Timeline Viewer area (like FCP/Premiere/Edius etc) or in a separate window (like Avid's Timecode window/Premiere's Info window).

If the former, perhaps the existing 'Data Burn In' functionality could be extended to allow 'all tracks' overlay functionality.

If the latter, you could perhaps co-opt the 'Metadata' window to show 'Timeline' metadata ie exactly this kind of info, if and whenever no specific clip is otherwise selected.

Thanks in advance :-)

As Rohit mentioned, you can go from bezier to linear by double-clicking a point.

I'm able to go back to bezier by holding down ALT and then click/dragging outwards from a point. This is on Windows, so maybe it's OPTION-click/drag on Mac.

I'm also able to move each handle independently of the other on a point by holding down ALT.

For all the colour space transformation ofx, i need an extra parameters when we go from a colour space Gamma encoded like P3dci to H2084 that reveal the mapping:

[Input nits] - [output nits].

Let me give you a current example:
I did a 108nits Dolby pass in p3d65pq for Dolby theatrical distribution and i need to make an imax 75nits version. Imax projector has a P3dci color space.
The first thing i want to do is to get the max nits in PQ that we decided to target with the client (it was 85) and map that to the (0-1) range of the Imax laser system: the target is P3- gamma 2.6 with the max white luminance of 75 nits.

There is no way mathematically to do that, yes you can go PQ to P3DCI, but resolve will map 48 nits to (0-1) thinking that is what we want, then i have to somehow gain to fit the excess.

Same in the other direction: let's say that i start worth the final SDR P3DCI 48 nits, not necessarily i want to map that brightness to start with in PQ: in this case we mapped in the Dolby 108 nits the starting (0-1) to 65 nits, then open the highlight and did the creative grade.

So, to go to and from PQ/hdr, we need to be able to specify which original intended nits we start from and where in the pq curve it lands, and vicde- versa.

Please, if you select a known standard, you can suggest the normal values to start, like p3dci/g2.6-48nits will map to p3d65PQ-48 nits as default of you don't change the settings.

Hi Andre,

I have noticed a remarkable drop in performance in Resolve 14.0.1.008 (lower frame rate during timeline playback) whenever I detach the scopes from the main window. It does not matter if the floating scopes are in the same or another monitor. Attached scopes (to the main window) runs fairly fast. I'm running on an AMD R9 280X GPU and a i/-4820K 4.2 GHz CPU with 24GByte RAM. Win 10 Pro 64-bit. Try if it makes any difference for you. Wonder if this behavior can be replicated by others? A bug or a feature?
