DR 14 Stabilization request

Hi there, is there any way stabilizing a shot in such a way that DR will ignore motion in the foreground and lock off the background? I have a shot that was on a Tripod and it's a fence post blowing in and out towards the camera in the wind, behind the post is the horizon of a field with a stonewall running along it. Even though the shot is locked off the wind is causing the horizon to vibrate a little and it's this I'm trying to eliminate. In Adobe after effects I can create a solid over the footage and mask out the post and then pre-compose these two layers and then stabilize the shot and because of this it is not trying to stabilize the post but just the horizon. When it has finished stabilizing I open the comp and disable the solid mask and the footage is good to go! I have tried the new stabilizer in DR 14 with no luck as it wants to stabilize the foreground elements and the point tracker is hopeless. It's a shame as I can now do most of my work in Davinci and leave Adobe (I'm still using CS6) as I don't like the whole subscription thing but this is the only thing that is holding me back.

I'm totally agree. This is the main problem with tracking for me. Independent tracking of the "destination" and "source" is the essential thing for cloning. Using Fusion for this simple task is too much.

Also some kind of rolling shutter correction of stabilized footage is desperately needed too, Premiere does it quite well why cant Resolve?

BCC, NewBlue and HitFlim all have optical stab, all work in a node tree not on the camera orignal, i usualy turn to BCC as i find it faster to render the OFX than i do to revise settings in the native stab

not tried v14's offerings yet

NewBlue and HitFilm also include a rolling shutter fixer, i've only used HitFilm's and it worked as expected on not horriable shot, but have not had to throw it at a go-pro yet

Have you tried just using the Classic Stabilizer (Cloud Tracker) option for this? I've had excellent results stabilising similar footage in older DR versions using this method... obviously you'll need to edit the tracking points (Interactive Mode) so it's only tracking the background.

Hi Dermot, can you confirm that the NewBlue Stabilizer is working in DR14? I have just downloaded the trial and it isn't appearing in the OFX list. It appears in After Effects but noe DR14. I have sent a message to the NewBlue team but I won't hear anything until after the weekend :)
