Resolve does not see any Videos

PostMon Jun 19, 2017 7:55 pm

Good Evening Everyone,

At the moment, I am getting into Video Editing and trying out different NLE's.
When It comes to Resolve I am stuck at importing Videos.

The "Add Media" Window on the left side shows only the Pictures that are in my Media Directory. Movies/Clips are not shown. I am using the Linux Version of resolve.

However, I also have a Windows 10 on my Notebook (running in dual-boot, I rarely use windows).
Resolve sees the same Video under windows, but does not show it under Linux.

File Format is MP4.

I am loosing my mind, could anyone help me out?

/Daten/Videos/davinci-media/Billard.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 1280 x 720, 23.98 fps, video: FFMpeg MPEG-4

Now the Question is, why DaVinci does not properly read the Videos. Even though it does know that they are there.

It seems to me, that DaVinci has no Codec for AVC1/H.264. (Log says that).

So does any Developer know what Codec-Library Resolve is using?
Additionally, all those LUT fails are kinda weird.

Full log: https://pastebin.com/H0zDbhC5

Is there a list of officially supported Linux Distros?

kind regards

The log says clearly, that it does not find the codev for avc1.

It seems, that there is something like an Codec pool, which avc1 has to be added to.

How do I do that?

Hi, please capture a diagnostic log and put the zip here, or at least a link to it, not screen grabs.
Also, please provide a link to the clip so we can review.

I apologize for the delay.

Here are the requested files.
The Forum Software does not allow video files, so here is the link: https://ufile.io/trby8.

Kind regards

Anyone?

btw: As Resolve does not work, I tried out Lightworks.
It reads the Videos fine, what proves that I do have the required Codecs installed.

Heinz, if you have the Studio version it would read the AVC1 file. You can post a link to one so I can verify.

Hello,
I believe I have the same issue. I have latest resolve 14 beta for Linux installed. I'm not able to import my MOV files.

In logs I can see error:
Code: Select all
[0x7fb6db1cd700] | IO                   | ERROR | 2017-08-01 20:25:53,227 | Codec (avc1) not Found in Repository

The same video imports fine in Lightworks. I don't have studio edition. Does it mean that I won't be able to edit my MOV files using free edition?

Logs attached.

Thank you,
Andrej

Codec (avc1) not Found in Repository

PostSun Nov 26, 2017 8:29 pm

Hello

I have the same problem Da Vinvi resolve doesn't see any video (drone MAVIC h264) not even in file browser

on:
Linux Mint 18.2 (Sonia, latest) ie. Ubuntu
Resolve: 14.1.1.005
[0x7fb3f1cd9700] | IO | ERROR | 2017-11-26 20:53:55,352 | Codec (avc1) not Found in Repository

I'd like to make sure this sw works on my PC before buying STUDIO

Can any one can confirm this. Apparently no progress on that thread lately.

thanks

Didier

According to "How to install Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 14 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS" on another website, h264 import is not supported in the free version.

The easiest way around this is to convert your video in another tool. I use VLC:
Media -> Convert/Save -> Add -> Convert/Save -> Edit Selected Profile -> Video Codec -> M-JPEG

This will create a copy of the video where each frame is a JPEG, so the quality is good and it can be imported to resolve.

I'm using Lightworks for a while, and even bough the pro version from them.
Wanted to try DaVinci Resolve, and stacked with this issue just on the beginning.

Now a day most of the videos are h264, which is widely used codec.

So disappointed with DaVinci Resolve. Hope they make it works in the future.

Same happens to me on Linux, while the same file I can open in DaVinci Resolve on Windows. If the free version can't import h264, why everything works fine in Windows? Both applications are the same, free version of DaVinci Resolve.

H.264 doesn't work well in the free version under Windows either, only on MacOS.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
