FCPX to Resolve Relinking Issue

PostWed Jun 21, 2017 4:36 pm

Hello,

I am coloring a short piece for someone, and the .fcpxml file they created opened up like this:
19402682_10155321076065539_668712991_o.jpg

Now, it appears to me that the use of compound clips is the culprit, since they claim to have cut the sequence together from the original Red camera media without using a proxy workflow. If this is the case, the clips should, as they normally do, link to original media without a hiccup.

I cut in Avid and Premiere Pro, so though I'm familiar with Premiere's "merge clips" issue with Resolve, I wasn't aware of something similar in FCP.

I originally recommended that they create a duplicate sequence without audio tracks, separate any compound clips, and simplify their video tracks as much as possible (which they clearly did not do for the .XML). I'm wondering if they perhaps did something else to the clips within FCP to alter the metadata present in the timeline?

Any help would be much appreciated!

QUICK UPDATE:

I heard back from the editor/writer of the project, and she actually did create proxies for editing, but at this point I have no idea how she rendered them, so I'm starting to think that appropriate metadata (timecode, reel names, etc) were not carried over to her proxy files. Novice editor.

Going to have the editor try onlining to the original camera media.

It also looks like the sequence wasn't prepared correctly for DaVinci...v5 being a long layer of clips, and the being a bunch of clips underneath... Not flattened for color work
