Exporting 1080i60 master from a progressive source

PostWed Jul 05, 2017 7:57 pm

I've got a project with multiple delivery formats. It was shot and edited in 1080p23.976, which is also one of the delivery formats. So far so good.

I must also deliver a 1080i60 master for broadcast. Can I convert a progressive video to interlaced in Resolve? Placing the 23.976 source in a 29.97 timeline will perform the pulldown, but there is no option for creating an interlaced timeline. I am not even sure Resolve performs a proper 3/2 pulldown anyway? I know I can do the conversion in another NLE or Media Encoder, but I'd like to do it in Resolve if possible.

In the delivery page on your original 23.976 timeline, change the frame rate to 29.97 (3:2) and then click field rendering. will work fine.

Good that works for creating the interlaced version. I knew that field rendering processed fields separately, but I did not know it changed the output from being flagged progresssive to interlaced.

Now, the only thing missing is an option for exporting drop-frame. The option above will result in a 29.97 interlaced non drop-frame version. The work around is to create a new 29.97 drop-frame project, import the 29.97 interlace non-drop-frame output from the previous step (do not allow resolve to change project settings). Then export again to get the drop frame version.

If it's a MOV format then you can change this on headers/hex level. Whole process is instant.
I have a custom made app for this for Mac.

I am aware it's just a flag in the file. What tool do you recommend for doing this on Mac? I got the trial of QTchange, but it just crashes on launch.

I have my own tool.
QTChange is one of them also, but I also had many crashes with it.
