gpu / cpu

PostTue Jul 11, 2017 3:23 pm

we are looking for the best configuration (pc). what about the differences between pascal, kepler and maxwell (nvidia generations) gpu. does it make sense to use a second cpu or is it better to use one cpu with many cores?
thx for helping!

Pascal is the way to go now.
I have a Titan X M, but would buy 1080Ti's now.
If you need the power go with 2x same GPU, if you don't, start with 1x 1080Ti and see if that already suits your needs.

We just purchased a Silverdraft Demon workstation, running Win10. It has 3 Titan Xp TI cards and it's screaming fast...48 cores, 128GB ram...

We've been a Mac house and our 2nd seat is a Mac 5,1 with 3 nVidia K5000 cards in a Cubix expansion and the Demon smokes it obviously...(can't wait to use the new nVidia's in the Mac Pro once the drivers are released by nVidia to see how that helps cache speed)

Dual 12 Core Intel Xeon E5-2687W 3GHz
128GB DDR4 Ram
8TB Internal SSD Cache

I agree, dual 1080 ti's are they way to go. The roughly $800 USD you save over two titans can be better spent on faster or more redundant storage solutions.
