Resolve 14 - Third party jog/shuttle improved?

PostWed Jul 19, 2017 5:16 pm

Just wondering if anyone has noticed any improvement, mainly with the Jog control using tools like Avid Transport. I realize that mapping can be done (Resolve 12.5) to make the jog control work, but the speed at which you rotate the knob is not utilized, so it's pretty useless. Hoping version 14 gives us true Jog control with my handy Avid Transport, so I can finally take Resolve's NLE seriously.

Any observations?

Thanks!

The jog shuttle from the advanced panel works much better on V14. However each jog seems to be 2 frames instead of 1.

I wish it would work for the viewer in edit mode to set I and o points.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, BM really needs to address this, for both their advanced panel and for third party tools like the Avid Transport.

I'll never be able to take their NLE seriously until they do, and I'm not the only one.

Does anyone know if that's the case with the Contour Shuttle, that its smallest increment of movement is TWO frames? Thanks!

I believe this was true for the Tangent Elements MF panel as well.

I have frame accuracy as well, with my Transport. It's the lack of speed synchronization between the jog dial and the playback head that makes the Transport's jog control near useless in Resolve.

The Contour Shuttle is simply a clever keyboard. So if you program "left arrow" on the wheel, it will only move one frame.

i find it usefull, i know far too well what you mean by speed sync, i use the shuttle ring to get me close and jog to find the frame that i lurve,

it seems to overload a keystroke buffer if i spin the jog knob - then Resolve just stalls... i avoid that by using the shuttle,

so it's not like using it under DS where it's amazingly great, but it does get me through the day, and seems preferable to Elements or Advanced where they do not have anything like the shuttle ring

no experience with contour or XKeys68, they also do not have a shuttle ring so likely a similar user expereince as Advanced and Elements
