Maybe its just me but I am here to whinge about the offline reference in edit page.

You have just found an incorrect shot. You go and find it switch back and forth between source and offline as necessary to correctly place the shot. All good and done: now you select offline reference again and hit the spacebar to continue the comparison BUT THE FOCUS IS STILL ON THE SOURCE AND THE OFFLINE REFERENCE RACES OFF AND THE MAIN EDIT SITS THERE LOOKING AT YOU LIKE YOU ARE AN IDIOT. Surely it can be coded that a spacebar when the focus is on offline reference means PLAY THE PROGRAM???

I know: in just a week or three I could train myself to always re-select the program before hitting spacebar but..............

I'm making considerable use of the offlone reference because of a disastrously mangled conform, and finding the biggest frustration is that there seems to be no way to view the reference and source views at the same time.

I use "Q" to switch between program and reference and if you have it set to show offline reference for missing media and use "D" to disable or turn off the media that is already there you can easily match against new media in source.

You could just put the reference file as the top video track and do a split to the conformed original tracks below.

its a good option too.

Does it weigh down resources any more than guide? I do notice dragging the guide along is a bit cumbersome but my system is about maximising efficiency....

Using offline ref, you can put it in the source viewer, select offline ref and sync with the timeline.

Now, what you want is to put the offline in the timeline viewer too so right click on the timeline viewer and select one of the options.
The source viewer is now available for source clips.

Putting it on the top video track is not ideal if you use cache.

Very true. It's also clumsy in terms of trying to correct and bypass video layers. I much prefer using the offline ref synced to picture -- the trick is when they hand me an offline ref without right timecode, at the wrong framerate, in H.264, and the wrong aspect ratio. (Which happens more often than you'd might think.)

So I'm discovering... but at least on the Resolve side there are lots of tools for making it easier to deal with these problems
