14b7 - *.mts (panasonic AVCHD) still without audio.

Hello,

while Resolve Studio 14b7 now is running quite stable, I started to test.

Since 14b6, DR should read AC3 Audio in *.mts Files (panasonic AVCHD).

When I import such files, DR sayas "Yes, there are Audio-Tracks" but on the timeline, the waveforms of the tracks are still empty.

Also on playback, no audio playing.

This is with stereo audio AC3 in panasonic *.mts (AVCHD) and also with 5.1 audio AC3 in panasonic *.mts files.

Do I have to set something in the preferences ore on the fairlight-page to be able to use and playback this kind of audio or is it still a bug in DR?

Thanks a lot for your answer.

Resolve Studio 14b7.

Peter

The sample .mts files I have work in Windows 10 with the Studio version of Resolve 14b7.

Yes, please provide a sample file.

Which Resolve version are you using, and on which computer platform and OS?

I really don't want to register with geeker.com or install intrusive apps my firewall is warning me about, to get this file. Any possibility you can put it in a friendlier place, like Google Drive, or something like that?

Hello,

a little feedback from my side:

With the help of the BMD support we could isolate the reason for that AC3 audio problem.
On Windows 7 AC3-Audio doesn't work in DR 14b6 / 7 / 8
On Windows 10 (on the same machine) AC3-Audio work perfectly.

I simply made a 1:1 clone of my Windows 7 Pro system disc, ran an upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and - tadaaaaa - AC3 Audio works in DR 14b7 and 14b8

So - if you need AC3 Audio in DR, you have to upgrade Windows.

For me, now it's time to switch to Windows 10 on the Media-PC.

Thanks a lot.
Peter

I know what the official policy is, but I hope they can see to making it work. There's a reason everyone else in post-production software continues to support Win7.

This is Windows, after all. "Upgrades" often don't go well. Also, privacy concerns with 10.

Thank you Peter. I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 64bit, so I'm askint to Dwaine Maggart if It is possible to make .MTS files to work on this release of windows. Please Dwaine... test the file I made with my GH4 in AVCHD and I uploaded to google in order to find the problem. I tried to install ac3 filters and Dolby audio patchs but still NOTHING!!!

it is "00204.MTS" a clip of 8 seconds filmed inside a Church.

We can't be clearer guys. We don't test nor support W7.
Please consider W10 or CentOS Linux as we supply an installer for that OS and it is used daily.

yes -- on CentOS you wouldn't even notice a minor issue like this, because you'll not get [system] sound output in resolve at all! ;)

Yes, I know.
That's normally also my thing.

But from time to time it's nessesary to upgrade for being able to use new features.

Otherwise we would still work on Windows 3.1 (or CP/M 2.2 on the good old Zilog Z80) ;-) ;-)

For my thing - even if I didn't do a clean install but only an upgrade of the Win7-Clone - Win 10 works like a charm on this machine with all installed software I could test until now.

And - like Blackmagic Disk Speed Test told me - Disk Access to the RAID0-Harddrives and also to the SSD for Render-Data is faster than on Windows 7

On Windows 7 the RAID0-Disk reached about 180 MB/s in the Disk Speed Test Tool, and the SSD went up to 330 - 350 MB/s (read and write Speed).

On Windows 10, the same RAID0-Disk runs up to 230 MB/s read and write Speed and the SSD goes "full throttle" up to 495 MB/s.

So IMHO it's absolutely worth it to upgrade to Win 10 Pro.

Thanks
Peter

You can convert the file in Handbreak prior to importing. Just add it to your Handbreak queue, select output format H264, constant quality 0=Lossless, Framerate=Same as source, Audio = AAC (avcodec) and then set a destination and star encoding. The process should complete real fast as the video will not be processed, only Audio. The newly created files will work without issues in Resolve including Audio.

Please note the video files produced as a result of the lossless conversion may turn out approx. 20% larger than the originals.

Hope this helps.

I just tried added some AVCHD to Resolve 14 (not beta) and the audio worked for me. Resolve said the audio was AC3 and played it. I never had this with previous versions. Is this a change in Resolve 14? I went looking for a document showing supported formats but could not find one. I was using the free version.

Have the same problem with .mts files from my Sony Alpha 6000. It worked two days ago with Resolve Free 15b2, after the WIN10 update to 1803 the same .mts files are mute.

It also didn't work with Resolve Studio 14.3 and 15b2.

Please help.

I have the same problem with .mts files from my Canon Vixia. I am running Windows 10 Pro, nVidia graphics card, SoundBlaster audio card. The audio from the .mts files plays in Adobe Premiere Pro, Pinnacle Studio and Corel VideoStudio. Not sure what the problem is. I have installed and reinstalled v14 and 15 beta four times, and no change. There is simply no waveform for the audio portion of the .mts file in the timeline, the icon in media viewer has a musical note in the lower left corner.

Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issues.
Windows 10 and now updated to Resolve 15 beta in the hope of fixing the problem.
I have been running version 14 without problems and now Panasonic files that previously played no longer play sound. They are 48000hz all other files work.

Please help.

My windows 10 did an update and now I am facing the same problem, I am thinking it had something to do with that. Bad timing for me I really need to get this project done. All of the avchd footage does not playback audio but everything else works fine. Gopro footage, prores 422, wav files all playing back fine but not AVCHD MTS files. I have been trying out your free version for a few months now, currently using 14.3. Will try the 15 beta version. Is there a workaround?

Okay well I have found a temporary workaround that does not involve Blackmagic. Until they figure out what's going on with the new windows update version 1803 you should restore your Windows 10 to it's previous version. You can do this by going to your windows settings (win+i) then go to update and security. On the left side you will see Recovery. Click that and then click where it says Go back to Previous Version of Windows 10. As long as you haven't waited too long (I believe they clear those files after 10 days) or manually cleared the files out it will restore you to the last working build. I did that and all my audio is playing back fine again. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to log the fact that I too am having this issue with mts AC3 audio after the 1803 Win10 upgrade. Worked fine on DR15b1 prior the the 1803 upgrade from Microsoft and now, no audio.. Shows that there is an audio track but no wave form and audio does not play when video is played. I tried re-installing DR15b3 after the 1803 upgrade but still does not work. Video plays just fine with audio in the Win10 video app.

Edit: And I can confirm that restoring the previous version of Windows 10 does in fact fix the problem.

Try WinRewrap-It will rewrap the .mts to .mov with PCM/.wav audio.

Get WinReWrap from videohelp.com, install.
Get ffmbc 0.7.2 from videohelp.com and extract to WinReWrap install folder.
Launch WinReWrap CHOOSE SETTINGS FIRST-I always have success with ReWrap MOV, Audio Format PCM.
Make sure to UNCHECK Overwrite Wrapped
Browse to folder where media you want to ReWrap is-there is no confirmation, WinReWrap will just start ReWrapping. Output files will be in the same directory as your source .MTS files with the .MOV extension+PCM audio.

For me, undoing the recent Windows 10 update to the previous build fixed the issue with no sound.
It works again!

I just upgraded to the studio version of DR 15 b3. Same problem, .mts files have no waveform nor sound. I continue to workaround by transcoding the .mts files to .mov files with a DNxHD codec.

I hope BM is working on this one.

Thanks,

I currently receive this information from Magix

The problem is with the fact that Dolby Digital decoding is unfortunately no longer supported in the trial versions of the programs. We needed to change the Dolby Digital activation and implementation for licensing reasons, which now calls for an online activation and the download of actual Dolby Digital decoding components from our server, which is only possible in the full version. As a result, you won't have any audio on formats using Dolby Digital audio (e.g. AVCHD and a lot of MPEG-2 files). We hope for your understanding. The full version will, of course, support the decoding of this kind of audio after performing the necessary online activation.

Hey, hoping someone can help. I've been using resolve to do some video editing, using footage from a Sony A7 in AVCHD format, in an MTS container. IT's been working fine for a few months, but suddenly, it's not playing back any audio from the files.
If I go back to older projects, it's no longer playing the audio in those, either.

The only thing I can think of that's changed is that windows updated to version 1803.
Every other media player on the computer (and Vegas) plays the files back fine, so it appears the codecs are fine.

This is something that conerns me as well. I've got my fist-full of cash ready to spend on the Studio version but right now I'm having to continue with a rolled-back Win10 system because Resolve stops working with AVCHD audio on the latest Win10 build. I don't want to have to be stuck in time without updates on my OS just to use my NLE.

To : Peter Chamberlain, DVR Product Manager shared with the user' s forum :

Could you consider communicating progress towards resolution of the problem and reasonable ETA for a workaround or better, a fix/patch. Since May 14th, date at which my WIN 10 system got updated to 1803 build, I am stuck as well : that is close to one month that the problem has been reported.
Although I am a simple amateur, novice with Da Vinci Resolve, I am prepared to keep being "used" as a beta tester and eventually purchase a license provided, going forward, I can start relying on professional software change management and control.

The best solution is to go back to Windows 10 1709 and stay there until the solution with version 1803 is implemented in Davinci Resolve (and windows and a lot of software in general)

It's Windows 10 1803 that has changed ...

Your production systems are your own responsibility. Doing a major software update without testing how it impacts your workflow is foolish, and you should count yourself lucky that you're on a platform that will let you easily roll back. Many users were out in the cold after Apple broke OpenCL decoding for RED media, and they didn't have the option to go back if they didn't have a backup. In your shoes, I would consider this fair warning that you need to implement an effective backup strategy yesterday.
