H264 samples from Ripple's Resolve 14 Quick Start 'blocky'

PostThu Sep 07, 2017 12:18 pm

I've been using the footage from Ripple's Quick Start for several beta releases of Resolve 14 and it has scrubbed and played fine.

I just installed the gold release of Resolve 14 and opened a project created some time ago - the quick start media (H264, 23.976, 1080p) now displays as blocky and sometimes 'offline' frames show-up.

I can play the same media in Windows media player and I don't see any issues...

The point is that this worked with Resolve 14 beta so somewhere along the way something has good wrong.

Anyone else seeing an issue with H264 media recently?

I have been running h264 1080 50p 35Mbps on the release version with no problems. No audio when scrubbing on some of the pages I have highlighted in another thread.

I have some GoPro footage as well that plays fine. Something about that sample media from Ripple that doesn't decode correctly. My biggest concern is that this is changed behaviour in Resolve 14. Recall that the media I am referencing was specifically released in Ripple's Resolve 14 Quick Start course.

It can happen with h264 when you random seek. It depends on the decoder and source file.
It should never show up and the playback or final export though.

It does show up in the final render... yippee.

Well - I don't really have the rights to post someone else's footage so I'll wait for another Resolve 14 user to report this...

Then this is different/more serious issue if you have problems even on renders.
It may be also not Resolve issue- maybe this file is not according to AVC spec. Best to report to BM and send sample.
