I also have this problem running GTX 1080 TI Driver 384.94
So I would say it certainly isn't just happening to people with
older NVIDIA cards.
It has only happened twice and both times i had to reboot my computer.

Ah, ok, I didn't see the CUDA 3.0 requirement anywhere. I know I saw a list of cards that were < CUDA 2.0 not being supported. Thanks Guys! Makes sense.

Any chance of adding something so this type of easier to diagnose? Like a pop-up vs just quietly crashing?

I missed that there was reference to CUDA 3.0 in this thread.

I get the same problem, however, I am using a mac on High Sierra. 2016 15" MBP with 4GB Radeon.
The mac app store version works fine. The version from the website crashes when I try to open a project. Everytime.

Oh no, that's why! I was already wondering, why I get a black image when I use a LUT (and it crashes sometimes at various tasks; not too often though).
Everything else seems to be working fine and fast (just editing 5h of footage).
Why don't the LUTs work, but manual color correction does? Is there no way to make it work?
It seems to work on a ******* Laptop of mine without a dedicated GPU (it "works" but eveything is pretty slow).
Is there any reason you "restrict" those older GPUs, or did you just not bother, because they're old?
Seems like I'm gonna have to buy a new GPU this is the first time, that this is an issue for any program that I use though... "Unfortunately" a good and useful program that I need...

No problems running with 14 beta, now updated to resolve 14 and wont stay open, tried all suggestions my card is Quadro m4000 with 64gb ram scores 5.2 so is fast enough.

Reason I want to try Resolve was that I foolishly thought it may be better than Premiere Pro cc and its constant problems, but at least that runs.

From what I have read, many people can't run the programme, so stop wasting their time pretending they are at fault and also side tracking the problem by asking for logs etc, it don't open, it did, end of story.

So to put this as simple as poss: IS BM GOING TO FIX IT?

I just started getting this today, too. No way to set up a log, but I ran Resolve through the command line and here's what it spat out:

Hey there, I'm jumping on the bandwagon since this seems relevant. I downloaded DaVinci Resolve 14 on a windows 10, I had a previous version of Resolve that worked normally. I can open Resolve, create a project, and start adding media to the pool. I can also start to edit, but when i begin previewing media or trying to drag files into the pool, I get the dreaded "DaVinci Resolve has stopped working" dialogue.

I am using resolve v14.0.1.008 as it was the only version available for download.

After reading through this thread, I switched to OpenCL in the preferences but the crash continues.

As mentioned before, I had some revision of v13 that ran without problem on this same hardware setup on windows 10.

@Bryce: What version of the AMD Crimson driver do you have installed?

Please run Windows System Information and save that as a .nfo file and post a link to that.

Dwaine, I downloaded the latest driver versions (17.11.1) last night and things are working now! Got a little ahead of myself after the fresh windows install.

I am having this same problem.

Background: I am a very new user of DR14, and have used it for about two weeks, during which I created several projects that I rendered and uploaded to YouTube. Yesterday I installed a new hard drive. After re-installing Windows 10, I downloaded the latest version of DR14 and installed it. Now, when I open Resolve I get the Project Manager window but the application closes immediately when I try to open the default new project or create another new one.

I have saved my system info and ran a batch file of the Resolve diagnostic log. These files can be viewed via Dropbox, so I guess a message to me for the link is necessary?

I think that my video card should be compatible with DR14 but after reading the system requirements in the ReadMe file, I wonder if it's a problem that my operating system is Win10 Home and not Win10 Pro. If so, has this requirement changed recently? I haven't changed my operating system other than to load it onto the new hard drive and had been using Resolve successfully with it before.

I will greatly appreciate any help anyone can give, as I have only a few days before I am scheduled to upload the next video in a series - and I need to get Resolve working in order to do so.

After posting my issue earlier today, I took a good look at the contents of my system information file. I saw that two different video adapters were showing. One appeared to be the adapter built into the mother board and the other was clearly my Nvidia card. I disabled the onboard adapter and after a reboot launched Resolve. This time, I was able to open a project and even create and save new projects. For now, it seems that I may have solved my own problem.

However, I'm still curious if anyone thinks I might run into trouble at some point because I'm using the Home version of Win10 and not the Pro version. Any thoughts?

Not had any problems with any DR14 version on Win10 Home. The only serious problem was the Win10 Creators update which shut down my GPU and would not allow it to be re-enabled. Only solved by a reinstall of Win 10.

Or open the project page and use CTL+comma to open the preferences page. Chose OpenCL in the preferences. The point here: no file editing needed.

Once I get it to open using the CTRL, where exactly do I choose "open CL"? I don't see it anywhere.

Allow me to ask the big question - Does this problem happen with the full paid version?

Assuming you have the Resolve Preferences window open, select System - Hardware Configuration - GPU Processing mode, and select OpenCL.

Save the preferences and restart Resolve for the change to take effect.

But have to think that going back to 12 could open up other issues with things like latest video driver compatibility. And I'm not sure that uninstalling 14 actually does a fully complete uninstall. IDK for sure, but I have read posts about components needing to be manually uninstalled when rolling back to a previous version.

I just started to have this same issue. I can not create logs because I can not get Resolve to open a project any project new or old.

I have a Toshiba Satallite 2-1 p254 i5 8gb ram Win 10 Updated.

It was working perfectly then one morning I opened a project and it would just close out. No crash no hang just close.

I did everything.

Restarted
Same problem

Reinstalled Resolve and restarted
Same problem

Reinstalled Win10- Updated - Reinstalled REsolve
Same problem.


I don't know what else to do.

I solved this issue. It was part my fault.

so I did not do anything to make it stop working.

But I did the following to make it work.

I simply after updating win 10 installed the video driver. Someone also told me if that died not work to install older video driver.



Like I said I did nothing to make it stop working so I still dont know what caused it to do that.
But I did try everything reinstalling resolve, reinstalling windows, updating.

I noticed an error on the logs. Error "openCL"

Since I could not get resolve to open up I could not create the Logs the regular way. So a tech told me to do the following.

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\ and launch CaptureLogs.bat by double-clicking on it.
A .zip file is placed on your desktop.

After that I just browsed the errors and noticed that "OpenCL" all over the place so I did google search saw it was a video thing and took a shot in the dark to update drivers I thought Windows updated these when you do system update but apparently not.

Wanted to also jump on the band wagon.

Confirm that upon trying to make a new project or open an old project Resolve just quietly quits.
However, changing the processing mode to OpenCL will allow it to run.

OSX 10.13.3, Resolve 14.3, 1080 TI, Nvidia 387.10.10.10.25.161, Cuda 387.128

Try installing the tried and true CUDA 8.0.90 driver, and see if Resolve will work in CUDA mode then.

Well, that worked for me too.
Have a Dell XPS (32GB, i7-7700, GTX1050) with 4K screen, use it often in combination with an extra 2K monitor (laptop & monitor in 2K resolution).
Problem started when I disconnected the monitor and started working in 4K mode again.
Resolve opened, offered to reopen an old project or start a new one & then disappaered.
When rightclicking the tab in the taskbar to close DR, still a pop-up appeared though to ask to save the just opened project (which was nowhere to be seen).
After changing the screenresolution as described above everything became visible again.

When I load an empty project, it just closes no matter if I'm trying to do something or leave it there.

So you are saying (in keeping with the current thread context) that if you switch GPU mode to OpenCL, it works? Or not?

Go into Windows System Information, and do a File - Save and provide a link to the .NFO file it creates.

I have been using Resolve 15 without any problem for couple months on Lenove E560. One day
Davinici startet crashing when opening project. The program will start just fine until I get to the window where I have to select whether I want to create a new project or if I want to open a old one. It does not matter what I choose to do, as soon as I click "create" (new project) or "open" on an old project Resolve 15 just closes. I spend a week on updatig of drivers, system, installasion of new and older versions, testes with 3dmark but cant find any solution. I know that my maschine is not so strong, but works fine.
Maybe somobody could take a look on my log?
