Does the OS Affect Performance?

Now that we have ver 14 with a new playback engine supported across three OS platforms, how does the operating system affect Resolve performance?
I have been a Windows user since it's inception so I have had little exposure to Apple and none to Linux. Windows was never rated as the best OS and often criticized for inefficiency and "bloatware".
So what's best - Apple (at premium prices), Hackintosh, Linux, or Windows?
Would it pay me to have a dual boot Win 10/Linux system using Linux for Resolve?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of the three OS's?
Thanks

DAVSYS daVinci was originally a Unix/Linux hardware/software solution and the Linux version seems to still be the heavy lifter -- but we are here referring to A-List mega installations, which it is perfectly suited to.

For the main numerical population, Mac was where it went once the commodity platform became practical. In a lot of ways, Resolve followed the door-opener that was Silicon Color "Final Touch" (purchased and re-sold) then cannibalized as Apple "Color." Which is now a filter for FCPX. Universal code made BMD Resolve available to Windows. But without ProRes.

I have been advised (at least up until recently) that a dual-boot Linux/Windows system would be a questionable approach. I was contemplating deployment of one of the Resolve Mini controllers... which can be platform dependent. Whether attempting to run one as the other on a purpose-built Linux or Windows (Dell or whatever) is not clear.

You've heard the expression "Horses for Courses." Do you want the ability to run multiple (non-mac BIOS) GPU's? What will be the bitrate and codec objective for the majority of media that you will want to process?

Will your paying clients be able to amortize your investment? Its not you buying this stuff. They are. Right? RIGHT?

Thanks JP
No paying clients so a cost effective solution is needed. :)
