Davinci Resolve v14 ISO Linux Advance Panel gets disconnect

PostSat Sep 16, 2017 10:46 am

Hi,
We are Linux users (with advance panel) since resolve v 9.x and kept bee updated our system as soon as BMD release the new versions so far.

Now we did a new installation with new Linux 7.x OS (on a new SSD drive (incase there is any issue with installation to keep our system alive) by downloading the ISO image given link in the PDF file (in a zip file when you download v14 software), The issue start from this point.

1) The link given in the PDF is not working when you click, even tried copying and pasting the browser manually, when i paste the link the initial "http://" appears as "hAp://"
hAp://downloads.blackmagicdesign.com/Da ... inux-14.0- CentOS_7.3.iso
correcting this when paste in browser link, link still does not work, then found out the "blank space" just before "CentOS_7.3.iso" (see above link) sorted this out and ultimately downloaded the ISO image and burned to DVD for installation.

2) Chose the "Automatics" option when DVD . gets boot for installation, found out the the Installation ISO does not install BMD Desktop video driver neither install Davinci resolve 14. Its just install the OS 7.3 with Nvidea drivers.. In my humble opinion which is strange where as in the past ISO images installs the complete system video drivers, desktop drivers, and Davinci resolve. whats the point of having ISO image from BMD then

3) Then we installed the latest desktop driver, firmware updates and Davinci Resolve 14, set the configs/preferences (by default the panel was not set and so selected advance panel, All done successfully and system runs fine.

4) Now Houston we have Problem, When we shutdown the system and start again, system/DV14 does not detect control panel, please note dongle is connected on panel USB port and read successfully so there is no connection issue but DV14 does not detect the panel whenever we "Hard boot" the system.

5) But when we run the installation script again and reinstall the DV14 its starts reading/connects the panels.

So the conclusion is whenever system turned power off panel not getting connected and reinstall the DV14 to get it read.. this is how we are able to work on v14.

Dear BMD team please look into this and need your support asap.

Try to move the dongle on the back of the main chassis.
Then hard power the panel and system.

We are looking into this and investigating a potential OS issue. For now your cumbersome workaround is valid.

1. Noted. The font used in the PDF file causes an issue cutting and pasting the ISO link. Fortunately, the issues in the pasted link are fairly obvious to sort and fix.

This is the corrected link:

http://downloads.blackmagicdesign.com/D ... OS_7.3.iso

2a. Auto install does install the Desktop Video driver. It installs the Desktop Video 10.9.5 driver. As per all previous ISOs, it only installs the base Desktop Video driver, and not the Desktop Video Setup GUI or Media Express.

2b. We don't auto install Resolve as we did in many of the previous ISOs because there is now the free and the Studio versions. So the installers for both these are placed into the /opt/resolve/Releases directory, so you can install the desired version. This is described in the Linux Installation PDF that comes with the release (the one mentioned in 1 above). This was also true for the CentOS 7.3/12.5.5 and CentOS 7.3/12.5.6 ISO, as 12.5.5 was the first Resolve version that had a free Resolve version available.

2c. Auto install also installs PostgreSQL 9.2. Installing this manually is less than trivial.

2d. Auto install also (as you noted) installs the NVIDIA driver, which is required for Resolve to run. Installing this manually on a stock CentOS install is also less than trivial.

4. You can get the Advanced Panels connected by doing the following (whether this is easier/faster than your reinstall method you'll need to determine):

Launch Resolve, press the Crtl and comma keys to bring up Resolve Preferences. Select Control Panels, then select None. Save the prefs. Exit Resolve.

Launch Resolve, press the Crtl and comma keys to bring up Resolve Preferences. Select Control Panels, select Advanced. Save the prefs. Exit Resolve.

Launch Resolve, press the Crtl and comma keys to bring up Resolve Preferences. Select Control Panels, then select None. Save the prefs. Exit Resolve.

Launch Resolve, press the Crtl and comma keys to bring up Resolve Preferences. Select Control Panels, select Advanced. Save the prefs. Restart Resolve.

The panels should now be connected.

You will need to repeat this process if the panels are power cycled or disconnected.

Thank you Dwaine Maggart for the detail reply and remedy of connecting the Panels without reinstalling the software. So in future update do we need to reinstall the OS again or DR update will fix this issue?

BTW i think by mistake you wrote same thing twice :)

No mistake, With that process, you need to do the panel none/panel advanced change twice.

Here's an easier way to get the panels connected:

If you launch Resolve, and the panels don't connect, exit Resolve.

Open a terminal window and type:

killall bmdpaneld

Now when you launch Resolve, the panels should connect.

Hi,

we're experiencing the same problem - are there any news on a fix for this?
