Another GPU Question-GTX 1070/1080 vs Vega 56/64

PostSat Sep 16, 2017 1:53 pm

Hello good internet people!

I've been reading and searching, but I haven't found exactly what I need. I'm using Resolve Studio on a Windows machine with the AMD Ryzen 1600x (12 threads @3.6 GHz), 32 GB RAM and the old Nvidia GTX 960 2GB.

The 960 has done really well for my personal HD editing but Resolve won't work with 4k-8k media with that little VRAM. I get the GPU Memory full message almost constantly.

I want to upgrade to Vega because I'm an AMD fanboy, but I wonder if the GTX cards are better? Or since all are 8GB of VRAM and all quite fast, maybe the differences for Resolve are negligible?

Any help would be much appreciated!

(Edit: it's hard to find info about Resolve and GPU benchmarks. In terms of UHD gaming, the cards go from best to worst 1080 > 64 > 56 > 1070. But I don't know if that's the same hierarchy for Resolve)

Well, now that I'm shopping, it looks like the Vega cards are pretty hard to buy, hmm
