Future of Dongles

PostTue Sep 19, 2017 5:27 pm

I have seen some of the discussions concerning "Studio Dongle to Activation Code" and I guess
similar threads will start for Fusion Studio when we reached that point.

I also purchased the dongle version, but I do not mind about dongles.
My question would be rather in the opposite direction. Will dongles be supported in future ?
Should not be a difficult extra for the programmers side-by-side with the activation codes option.

So far, BMD was kind enough to provide upgrades for free and I would clearly
love it to have access to Resolve 15 and equally Fusion 10 using my dongles.

We are still rolling this out and the reseller channel will have activation versions soon.

What I mean. Does BMD support dongles on the long run ?

I would like to have this option since it allows me to switch between
various machines without daily, if not hourly, deactivation and reactivation
processes with all the problems this may cause.

There are people on this forum who stepped in at Version 9 with a dongle, which you can still use in 14 at no upgrade fee. They have no plans in changing that, in fact still announced to sell dongles next to keys as they cater different users. (i am also a donglerofile)
Guess that should answer your question....

The dongle definitely isn't for me! I'm mobile and I hate having to physically carry it with me and having it subject to loss. I purchased Studio 12.5 with a dongle just 3 months ago in order to have the advantages of Studio during beta 14. I was assured that I would be able to exchange my dongle for an activation code at the release of 14. I'm patiently waiting for a resolution.

 Well done, nice shot
I personally am ok with a dongle I can carry to find a studio version elsewhere, so I leave the thread now but I loled laugh when I saw your satiric post

Thanks Dwaine !!! So true....

Suggest to create a special, "cry baby" section in the forum and dump all these endless key/dongle posts in there to clean it up a bit here and talk about the software.

edit: and while you are at it , put these "but in premiere it works like this , so why not in resolve ????" discussions as well. Or program an autoreply : "then use premiere and move on"

Missed the topic on this one.

so will the older dongles from 12.5 only unlock 14? or future upgrades too?

Thanks

Moral decency stops me: BMD, it's good to hear that.

I am a little uneasy at the moment. I might be the odd one out? I was hoping for dongles as I just purchased Studio and only got the activation card.

I am a little uneasy now because the deactivation process isn't clear. If I want to reinstall or move to another machine (or OS perhaps)... It appears that I CAN'T ?!? With a dongle, de-activation is as simple as unplugging the dongle!

I hope there is a way to deactivate as I am not seeing one (haven't completely searched). My stomach is turning at this moment. Just downloaded and use a fellow member's makedeb script and installed into my video workstation and had no issues (but haven't kicked the "Studio" tires yet). But that said, still a little uneasy.

FWIW, I am liking the software so far.
