Media Bin Media Maximum?

PostThu Sep 21, 2017 3:28 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone out there can help me? I am trying to load in 300 raw Black Magic files into my media bin within Resolve v14, but for some reason only 27 files are coming in which is frustrating. Is there a limit to how many files you bring in at once or am I doing something totally wrong? I have only been using Resolve for a few weeks now so I am still trying to get the basics down.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Simon

There is a limit but its many thousands of elements. Please explain your problem in a lot more detail and see

Hi Peter,

Thanks for getting back to me. I will try to add more detail and include a screen grab of what I mean.

Hopefully the screen grab explains what I mean. But to reiterate, when I go to open a folder from my external harddrive in my media storage which I know contains over 100 files for example, within davinci, only a maximum of 27 files will be displayed. Its very frustrating as I have a large project to work on which contains over 600 blackmagic RAW files.

I hope this helps

My system info is as follows:

Resolve v14: Version 14.0.0.078

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
System Manufacturer - EVGA INTERNATIONAL
Processor - Intel Core i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz
Memory - 64GB RAM
GPU - 2x GTX 1080

DiskDrives:

WDC WD2003FZEX-00SRLA0 (Storage)
Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (Scratch Drive)

How are those drives formatted?
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Apparently it was formatted to OS X Extended (Journaled) as the guys who were here before me started on Mac. Do you think that could be one of the issues? If I ran footage off my local drive, would I have more success?

Thanks

Did you mount those drives with a software to make them readable by the PC?
If so, the file number limit could be imposed by that software.

I'd normally use ExFAT for exchange between systems.

I don’t know to be honest. The IT guy set it up years ago. It sounds like I should try moving the footage on to my local drive

Yep. If it was set up years ago it might be some really old software. Normally, you can't just plug an HFS drive into a PC and see the files.

On a MacPro or even a MacBook Pro, we often have an entire feature film shot footage in one project. That would be as many as many tens of thousand clips (video and audio) in one project.
And each clip, in the case of Arri Alexa is often a frame sequence of hundreds of files.
Along with maybe hundreds of timelines in the same Media Pool.

So I'd say even if there was a limit, it may even be in the millions of 'objects'.

I work with Macs and can confirm that.
The questions is: does that software, which is translating the file system on the PC, have a limit?
