Audio playback issues in V14

PostMon Sep 25, 2017 5:28 pm

Hi,
I recently upgraded to V14 fro 12.5. Now when to move the cursor to a new point in the timeline the video plays instantly but there is no audio for a second or so. This did not happen to me in V 12.5

My set up:
Mid 2010 Mac Pro 5,1
OS 10.12.6 Sierra
Processor 2X 2.4 GHz Quad Core Xeon
Memory 56 GB 1066 DDR3
Graphics Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 TI 6144 MB
OWC Mercury Elite Pro GX2 .. Raid 5
Decklink Studio 2

Could there Decklink studio be outdated? Or is there something else I should look for?

thanks Alan Dater

No solution here, but same problem.
As described above, often audio takes a second or so to kick in, and sometimes even drops out during playback. Sometimes only one channel for a short time, or one track missing for a second or two.

Tech data: Win10 64, Ryzen 5 1600, 32 G RAM, GTX980ti, Intensity Pro, DVR 14 Studio (soundcard info will be added when I am back home)
Media: Transcoded to DNxHD 10bit, audio 48 KHz
Tech:
Win 10 pro, Ryzen 9 5900X, 128 GB, M.2 for media
RTX 3080 ti, Intensity Pro, DVR Studio + Fusion 18.x, Desktop Video 12.x

Same here on a current iMac. Strange thing: if I use JKL instead, the audio is there immediately.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Which page are you on when you are seeing this issue? Edit or Color or Fairlight?

It's edit here, although not tested on fairlight, and not sure about color.

On edit page. JKL does not correct the problem for me. I downloaded the new version of "desktop Video" and it did not change the issue.

This isn't new -- same occurred in 12 on Windows. Restarting playback is the only way to fix it. It's worse with compressed audio, but you see it with .wav as well. Decklink or system audio makes no difference, it's a playback issue.

To follow up on my original post on this subject.
The audio lag does not happen on the Color page or the Fairlight page...only on the Edit page.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix the problem but nothing has helped.
It is going to make editing in Resolve a non starter for me unfortunately.
Anybody from BM know how to fix it?

thanks...I know you are dealing with a lot now.

Alan, is it really a second or two delay?
If so, please provide a diagnostic log from help menu, a export of your project and a phone video showing the delay.

I see a fractionally longer delay on edit compared to fairlight but nothing like a second or two.

Hi,
To follow up. The audio is delayed almost a second...noticeable. The delay only happens on the edit page. On the color and Fairlight page playback of audio is normal with no delay. I noticed on another thread in this forum someone with a similar mac setup as mine (mid 2010) is having issues with audio delay that seem to be related to waveform display.. There have been issues with waveform display on my machine also. But once a new project is up and running after a few edits the waveforms displays have been consistent.

thanks,

Follow up.
I have returned to Resolve 12.5 and audio lag is no longer a problem. I will hold off on upgrading to 14 for now.

Thanks

By default the top drive on your storage list is used for cache. If that drive is slow, or CPU busy, that can cause waveform issues and audio delay. Can you detail what you have this set to? What type of drive is it? SSD?

HI Peter
My top drive is an OWC Mercury Elite 12TB raid 5 connected by E-sata The drive speed results from the BM speed test are: 176MBs write & 228MBs read.

It is fast enough for editing ProRes HQ in Resolve 12.5 . Not sure if it is fast enough to edit ProRes HQ in V14?

Thanks for looking into this issue.

Audio playback issues in V14

PostThu Oct 05, 2017 8:27 pm

As I posted in another thread, I had this lag on audio in Edit when I was using iZotope RX VST plugins on 14.0.0.078 (no problem in 12.5.6). I removed the plugins and audio plays from the start of the clip.

Assuming you are not using a plugin that causes this issue, without knowing the resolution you are trying to use this speed detail is not so helpful. For HD is probably ok. Can you use the v14 'create diagnostic log' operation in the help menu and post link to the zip.
Also try 14.0.1 that was just released.

I am running into the same issues. Audio playback on the Edit page is significantly out of sync but on the Color page there is no problem.

I am using Davinci 14.0.1.008. DNG and WAV are on a 10 TB Pegasus2 raid 5 connected with Thunderbolt 2. All grading is bypassed for this test. Here is some information from the logs:

DR14 worked fine until I installed 15B

Audio got choppy only in timeline - as seems to be the case with everyone - converting file formats/ frame rates did not make any difference

OS Build 17134.48
i7 2600K 3.4 GHz
