Resolve Frame rate Interpretation Issues

PostMon Sep 25, 2017 10:54 pm

Over the last week or so I've been encountering the most frustrating issue:

Shooting with the Ursa Mini Pro in a variety of frame rates, resolutions, and codecs.
Upon importing to Resolve 14, the software will display very wrong framerates. It will default many of the high frame rate clips to 24fps, but some 120fps will show 60fps.
Also some of the 120 or 60fps will play back sped up massively. When I try to slow this down in 'clip speed' it gives strange choppy artifacts.

I've never had an issue before this. Not sure if it correlates to the release of 14 or not though using the beta I had no issues like this.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Which project rate did you set in the camera?

Blackmagic is handling these things just like Red always did it: you have a project rate (e.g. 24 fps) and a shooting rate (e.g. 60 fps). This setting will automatically show a 1:2.5 slo-mo. Imagine it like the projector being strictly 24 fps, like in the old days, and the camera overcranking. Your timeline in DR is just like that projector, strictly one fixed speed.

If this wasn't set correctly when shooting, just change it under "Clip Attributes" and it'll be smooth.

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

I've never changed the project frame rate in camera intentionally from 24fps. Perhaps it accidentally changed somehow.

Interestingly, in 'clip attributes' one clip that isn't playing back slow is listed at 60fps, once I change it it looks like it plays back at the correct speed. However, the clips that play back ultra-fast are listed at 30fps, when I switch it to 24 it really does nothing.

Also, strangely some are listed at bizarre frame rates I would never choose ( 20fps, 12fps).

That might be a bug in the camera firmware then.

I have the exact same problem.

We accidentally set the project frame rate to 50 instead of the clip frame rate, and now it plays back 2x speed as default.

I'm interested if this problem got solved, or the topic was explained somewhere else.

Thank you!
