Resolve 14 High Sierra Crashes

PostTue Sep 26, 2017 5:55 am

Opening several projects causes crashes on App Store version AND dongle version under High Sierra on rMBP 11,3. Tried new disk database and re-importing project, no luck. Tried variations on hardware preferences, uninstalling and re-installing apps, updating nVidia drivers, updating Decklink drivers, etc. no luck. Only an empty project can be opened. Noticed external drive wasn't showing filesystem on Media Page on App Store version, added to Media Storage Locations. Still no luck.

Any help appreciated. Logs from dongle version here:

The only help I can offer: go back to Sierra!

 Good advice! Luckily I am in a lull and this is my mobile rig, not my workstation. But I had a few shots to tweak and had to do them over TeamViewer! So this may be a bit of a cautionary tale for anyone else thinking...

When it comes to Mac OS updates there's the old rule: Do. Not. Update. Until the software you are using actually supports the new version and all the other kinks the new version brings are dealt with.

If you have a NVIDIA GPU you might need to use Metal or OpenCL until CUDA update compatible with High Sierra is available. You can select this in Preferences.

Seems a bit personal for a technical forum, but thanks for the insight.

Hopefully this thread helps someone else. App store version can't change GPU mode, dongle version can and seems to function fine.

App Store version runs in OpenCL mode and should be fine.

Hence the smilie.
Dont take things so serious man. Was definately not intended as i though the comment about the poop smilie emphasised (unless you did it on your production machine then i have no mercy for you) . Apologies if you took personal. I stand corrected.

Btw there is an interesting remark in the Sierra threads that seem worth digging in regarding the dongle and the detection utility still beeing the 32 bit 12.5.6 version.
Check if you can remove/reinstall that so its the correct DR14 vesrion. Might be worth a try to at least get the dongle issue out of the way.

edit: see i posted my comments on the dongle in the wrong high sierra thread. Nevermind . Just ignore.

This is not my production machines, this is my personal laptop. It is essentially a test bed for me to see if things are working or not.

So projects in App store version crash. I changed the dongle version to OpenCL, crash. Metal (on the dongle version) is the only thing that will open the projects.
