No sound when importing DNG's in Resolve 14

PostSun Oct 01, 2017 6:39 am

Hey Guys,

After a lot of testing and tutorials I realized that for some reason Resolve 14 doesn't import(or recognize?) the .wav files included in DNG folders.

The clips play back fine but none of them have sound, the audio waveform also doesn't detect any sounds...how can I fix this? It used to work fine in 12.5 I'm confused. In the masterbin, a small musical note is displayed on the bottom left corner of the clip thumbnails, does it mean it knows the clips have sound but can't play it?

I made sure to try with other type of clips (non DNG) just to make sure it's not a muted audio or sound problem, audio works fine with all of them. I'm on windows 8 and nvidia.

Help please!

Thanks for your time

I dont see the problem here. Do your DNG clips really have audio in the wave file?
Can you post a link to a sample?

Thanks for your answer Peter,

The problem is that i have no sound on the dng clips.

Yes they do have sound normally. They work fine when I import them in premiere pro for example.

The .wav do have sound in them. Here's a link to a dng folder with wav for you to try .https://we.tl/N8XGDw9jfn .

The files look like this in the bin (see joint photo)

Thank you

I'm shooting CinemaDNG from the Pocket and Resolve 14 works with the files just fine, including audio. I don't think it's a general bug. But I can't get audio from your file either, so there is something about your file that's weird. What device recorded it?

I'm having the SAME EXACTLY PROBLEM.

I import videos made on GoPro Hero 5 Session and they work fine.

I import from GoPro Hero 6 and no audio file. I'm able to hear the sound in iMovie or movie player.

I downloaded your footage. When I play the wav file outside of Davinci it plays ok. But when I import the footage into DR the wave form is flat ( no sound ).
I work also with DNG and it works, the only difference is, that I'm using 24 fps and your footage is 23,97 fps. Perhaps this could be the problem.

I experimented a bit and if I load the wav into Logic ( I defined also 23,97 fps in the project settings ) and exported it as wav ( replacing the original wav ), Davinci sees 2 files the video and the wav, but when I put the video and the wav on the timeline, I have sound. But they are not quite equal. The sound seems to be a frame longer. Perhaps a 23,97 problem.

BTW, I tested also with 14.0.1. Same problem.

UPDATE: In the LOG file I see this error:

[0x70000afc5000] | SyManager | WARN | 2017-10-06 01:56:42,849 | SyAudioWave::ParseHeader | Header reports wrong audio data size (expected 2350584, got 2404016)

[0x70000afc5000] | SyManager | WARN | 2017-10-06 01:56:42,853 | SyAudioWave::ParseHeader | Chunk of invalid size (2395824, got 2342400)

Seems, that the recording device wrote a wrong header. Or it's a firmware problem with the camera. As I said, with 24 fps I have no problems ( Micro Cinema Camera )

I shoot both 24 and 23.976 on the Pocket and the audio always works fine. I'k skeptical of this explanation.

I said perhaps! Fine, then it's something with his wav file.

I'm not sure it makes sense to convert to CinemaDNG. It won't be the same as actually recording RAW.

Magic Lantern MLV is a raw format.

But how come the exact same footage works perfectly in Premiere pro CC and resolve 12 (by working i mean the sound is recognized and played). I just doesn't make sense. Does anyone else use MLV fils in Da Vinci Resolve 14 here?

So then I'm confused. Why was 'conversion' mentioned if the recording itself is CinemaDNG?

I have the same problem.

Record Raw video with ML at 23,97fps.
Allow to hear the sound in other programs (even in media pool of davinci), but gone when importing the cinema DNG...

We need to try at 24fps to see if this issue persist.. to bad my last whole proyect was at 23,97

Always post a link with a piece of clip for us to test?
If it works in the media pool, it's that 'maybe' we must not be far from a solution ...

I'm also having this problem. Shot with a BMCC 2.5k camera at 25fps. Files won't seem to add to WeTransfer to make a link (in the folder for each take there is a WMV file and all the DNG files), but it doesn't say too big or anything it just says nothing and doesn't add the files...

I remember someone writing something about havig to add the WMV files manually, but didn't go into any more detail so I'm not sure what this means....
