Disappearing waveforms linked to audio playback delay

PostSun Oct 01, 2017 10:05 pm

I have a two, one hour long clips shot in HD XAVC. Clip1 editing onto time line 1. 60gb

The second clip editing onto time line two. Also 60gb

Waveform set to on on both timelines.

Booting up and choosing the project shows timeline 1 with waveforms.

Switch to time line 2...No waveforms

Back to timeline 1, waveforms gone and will not come back until a restart of DR.

While this is annoying , it is also directly tied to audio playback performance.

Timeline 1, with waveforms, plays audio almost instantly.
Timeline 2 without waveforms, takes almost 2 seconds to hear the audio.
Back to timeline 1, waveforms now gone, same 2 second delay.

Q: Is there a way to force a waveform redraw?
and
are the waveforms cached, if so where?

If I install a Decklink 4K card with dedicated audio outputs, should this eliminate the audio delay on playback?

Currently have a Mini Monitor card which has no audio outputs. A de-embedder seems around about fix.

Happy to drop $ to fix this problem once and for all.

Jack, what is the first drive listed on your preferences media storage list? SSD? Raid?
Can you check the Project setting, master settings, cache location. Is this to the same disk?

Peter,

the 1st drive is my system SSD. This is where the cache files reside as per project settings.
2nd drive is a raid 5 for media only.
Both are internal and permanently connected.
Should they be the same?

No. That looks ok.
Can you confirm you can cache a short clip to the SSD and that works ok?

Ok. After double checking, now, in Project Setting , Master Settings, I have made the cache directory the same as in daVinci Preferences, 1st drive. the SSD.

It was set to the SSD but to a different directory.

Could you enlighten me if installing a deckink card with 4 dedicated audio outs would improve my audio performance. Happy to drop some bucks your way especially to have 4 track monitoring.
