LUTs broken in 14.0.1?

PostSat Oct 07, 2017 6:28 pm

I have just upgraded from 14.0 to 14.0.1 and shots that are using a 3D LUT are completely garbled. I'm on macOS 10.12.6, 2013 MacPro Dual D700 cards. Whatever 3D LUT I'm using I get magenta and green banding. This does occur with the built-in 3D LUTs as well as 3rd party ones. Do I need to flick a switch somewhere or is that a bug?

What’s the source footage? Have you tested other kinds of footage?

Try adjusting the 3D Lookup Table Interpolation in the color management settings.

I believe by default it is Trilinear.

Just a quick check here with XAVC Slog 3 clips. Luts look ok so far.

Source footage is 4K 50p XAVC-I in slog-cine. I'm using slog all the time with those same LUTS that now cause this weird banding.

I also tried 4K 50p ProRes in slog-cine, recorded to an Atoms Shogun Inferno: same Problem.

I tried reinstalling 14.0.1, but the problem did not go away. I have now rolled back to 14.0 and everything is fine again.

I have also tried 14.1 on my MacBookPro (in this case the free version. (The one causing trouble is the dongled Studio version on my main machine MacPro) and the LUTs seem to work fine there.

The only difference between those machines is that I have macOS Sierra on the MacPro and High Sierra on the MacBookPro. Could that be the cause?

Source footage codec: Arri RAW
Applied LUT: Arri Alexa LogC to Rec709

Has no problem.

Check in Resolve Preferences - System - Hardware Configuration - GPU Processing mode. Set it to OpenCL. Save the prefs and restart Resolve. Does that fix the issue?

I believe by default it is Trilinear.

I ran into banding when using the LUTs delivered by production for a recent job. Switching this setting to tetrahedral fixed the issue.

Footage was ARRIRAW mxf files. The Arri Alexa LogC to REC709 was fine, but the job-specific LUTs caused banding, and this was the first time I had encountered this. Beyond that, LUTs have worked fine for me in 14 and 14.0.1 under Windows 10.

Ran into the same problem with SONY FS7 XAVC UHD 10bit footage, with SLog2-SGamut_To_LC-709TypeA SONY LUT applied.
Switching to Tetrahedral solved the banding issue.
