Resolve is ganging images together in the media pool browser rather than showing me individual images. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to display single images.

The manual is devoid of anything regarding this issue or how to setup DR to display images properly, just a smidgen about importing file types. That's it.

I'm using DR Studio 14.01.

Yup.. this one is a bit hidden :)

Resolve does that because of Jpeg's names, they're probably sequential.
You can either rename...
Or,

In the Media Pool window, you have a small 3 dot menu with one command - Show individual frames

Only limitation is you can't drag directly to bin..

I think it would be a nice addition to Settings (on/off)

Don't need it as an import option since you can toggle it dynamically. At least for JPEG sequences - you can easily drag them as individual images to a bin.

your issue is not that they were jpgs instead of pngs, it it that they were sequentially named, much like an animator would output a series of stills that made up a logo animation. Resolve sees those files and assumes it is an animation.

Yes it its a pita, but it is not the end of the world. If you want to successfully rename them, you need a rename program that will allow these files to be renamed in a manner that they don't look sequential.

Perhaps adding an Underscore at the end of each file after the number...or remove the numbers all together.

Hi guys,
Yes I agree it is a pain, my work arounds are replace the numbers at end with letters,
or add a prefix rather than suffix to the name.
Thanks,

If naming suggest sequential increase then Resolve thinks its an image sequence- nothing wrong with it.
If you happen to have many independent images with sequential naming which you want to be treated as independent then Resolve have no way of knowing this. There simply should be an option to turn of image sequence detection (during actual import- or maybe after selecting all of them).

This is typical problem of automation- in some cases it simply won't be 100% reliable and needs human intervention. Not much what you can do about it except giving users an easy option to correct it. This is a bit of Resolve issue as some of its options are simply hidden or not in "correct" places.

As Hector mentioned. Select the individual frames option in the Media Storage three dot option, select all and drag the clips into a bin.

Think about it from the other persons perspective, all the clips that are a sequence of frames, dpx, exr, dng etc, they all want to be a single clip, not as individual frames and the default config for Resolve is exactly as they need.

One thing we could add is a way to bring a folder from Storage into the Media Pool as individual frames as this would save a few keystrokes.

oh yes please - even after a couple of years this still catches me. i understand the different requirements, ie. stills, sequence, but it's still exceedingly annoying for people who work with lots of stills.

Simple checkbox addition. Like every other program.
Why are so many Resolve users adverse to having the software saving US time‽?
That is the whole point of the software.

So what's the fix now in 17? The "show individual frames" option is gone, and Resolve is STILL ganging photos together.

The option is still there.

Is there a way to drag and drop a group of images from a desktop folder and not have them still be grouped as a sequence? A lot of times I have images being sent to me from our gfx team while editing on the fly, switching to the media page to drag and drop or import stills negates time I could be dragging into my project bin and editing into my timeline.

This indeed is incredibly silly... Even when one figures out there is this setting in Media page...
davinci-resolve-media-sequence-trouble.png

...it's not used when just drag'n'dropping pictures from explorer/finder!

There is no right-click option on the "sequence" to convert it to distinct pictures. There is no option like the one in Media page in the edit page. Perhaps there is some option buried somewhere else.
One may try to cut it with a Blade tool - but you can't make it longer, freeze frame doesn't do any good for it. Resolve forces us to try various things that don't work instead of doing the most expected things - copy/paste multiple pictures in the timeline. :-(
