how to automatically make a trailer / preview in Resolve?

PostMon Oct 16, 2017 9:42 pm

For videos that I make in Resolve, I would like to automatically generate a short preview trailer. The preview trailer should be randomly sampled footage from the beginning to the end of the video. I was thinking this would be a neat feature to have on the delivery tab in Resolve. This is possible to do in command line programs such as FFMPEG or AviSynth, but is it possible to achieve this in Resolve?

No, you have to do the work manually.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Resolve isn’t the right tool, but this might be of interest if you’re on a Mac. If your full length video also generates a codec compatible with iMovie, I think then you can use iMovie to auto-select clips for a trailer. Quite a while back I thought about doing that but I didn’t like the constraints it imposed. You may be fine with it. No harm in giving it a try.

Since Resolve stopped supporting HDV, i have used iMovie to convert my HDV footage to a ProRes codec and that imports beautifully into Resolve. I redid a wedding video recently with that workflow and that 8bit video looked decent thanks to all the tools at my disposal in Resolve.
